My husband started folfox chemo but had a very bad side effect that affected his brain for about 8 hours so chemo has been stopped. Our only hope is major surgery as he has complex bowel cancer with satellite tumours in the lymph nodes.
the surgeon has said 8-10 hour op if no complications but there are huge risks and complications during and after surgery. Hospital stay is 2-3 weeks if all goes well but there is a huge risk of death during surgery.
Has anybody had complex bowel cancer surgery and how did you cope with stress and anxiety as a partner of someone having this type of surgery.
Hi Beanie2024
Although you didn't get any replies to your message here, I can see that you've had quite a few to the same post which you've posted in other groups.
I hope you're feeling a little less stressed and anxious now that you've 'spoken' to others within the community.
Wishing you and your husband all the best with his upcoming surgery
Hi Beanie2024
Sorry to hear about your husband .
My mum had a straightforward bowel resection however one of her liver resections was more complicated and the risks highlighted to us .
The way I processed this was to consider the complications, risks and outcomes should the surgery not occur and that helped to shift my thinking . It was not easy and I was relieved when it was over . But it turned out well in the end for her .
I wish him the very best and a good surgical outcome and a bright future.
