Morning everyone. Had my op (robotically) to remove my sigmoid colon on the 8th. There were complications and the surgery took 8 hours! They have managed to join my bowel up so I don’t have a stoma. I’m allowed to drink fluids but no food as yet! Started passing wind yesterday, just waiting on a poo now! Still on the IV morphine drip but I think I might get rid of that today. I was absolutely terrified of the surgery but they were all so lovely and kind, plus I knew nothing about it! Going to try and walk a bit more today. Pain is not bad at all just very tired. My surgeon has been to see me every day and thinks he has got all the cancer, no lymph node involvement!
Hi Darkmoor77 and good to hear that you sound to be recovering well from the surgery. It’s tough being on just fluids but a lot better than ileus which can kick in if you start normal eating too soon.
Keep up the ward walking and you’ll soon be home in your own bed
Take care

My op was on Thursday too. I started passing wind on Friday night. Fingers crossed you pass some wind or have a op soon! I’ve started walking longer distances today, I get tired so quickly!
Hi Teddy007 With keyhole they pump you full of air to ‘inflate’ you so they’ve more room to move about inside you. This trapped air can take a few days to disappear. Peppermint tea can help or ask the nurses if they have any peppermint cordial? x
Walking a little but exhausted and very sore. Pee but not wind or poop yet.. Fingers crossed.
Still no poop! I’ve come off the IV morphine pump but not keen to take orally in case it slows by bowel down even more
Hi Darkmoor77 it’s frustrating isn’t it? The bowel is a bit of a diva and doesn’t like being manhandled and can sulk for quite a few days. Are you still on liquids only? x
Liquids and ice cream and jelly. Had a poo this morning!!! Feeling so much better. Yay!! Walking and fresh orange juice seemed to really help
No allowed normal diet but food is awful. Told no orange juice or veg but spoke to nurse yesterday and she said try orange juice and veg to get bowel moving. Getting alot of conflicting info. Going g to eat veg and orange juice now and hopefully will poop.
