  • Hi.

    I'm Chris (male) age 54.

Had part of my sigmoid colon removed in march 23 followed by chemo. Had a spread to the liver with 7 mets.

Mets shrunk so had a 2 part liver resection in April and June.

Everything thing was removed with clear margins.

Starting 3 months mop up chemo on Monday 8th July.

Feeling good. It's about 5 weeks after my resection now.

Feel free to ask any questions.

    Chris.

  • Chris, what a fabulous story, thank you for sharing. My husband was diagnosed at the beginning of June with stage 4. There are significant mets throughout his liver but his lungs  are clear. He has had a stoma to avoid his bowel blocking and has just had his first session of folfox and seems fine. It has been described as palliative chemo but your story gives hope that the mets in his liver may shrink and make surgery an option so thank you and best wishes for the future.

  • Hi

I was diagnosed with stage 3 sigmoid colon cancer in July 21.Succesful bowel resection in Sept 71 but 5 local lymph nodes affected.Blood tests in Nov 71 showed raised CEA level .Subsequent scans showed 1 liver Met.I as put on Folfox for 6 months .The met totally shrank and in May 72 I was NED   . Scanned every 3 months ( now extended to 4 months) and latest scan still NED. Long may it lastJoyJoy .

Best of luck with your journey

    regards

    Macc

  • Hi Chris, great story, thanks for sharing. How did you feel about a 2 part liver resection when there had been 7 mets? Did you feel confident all the cancerous cells have been killed or removed? I had 2 mets but following chemo they can't see one anymore so only plan to carry out one resection.  I worry that means some of the cancer may be left behind...

  • Hi, I had mets on my left side and right side.

They did the left side first and embolised the right side while the left side grew back.

Then they removed the whole of the right side 6 weeks later.

The surgeon seemed pretty confident they were removed with clear margins but it's always gonna be in the back of of my mind that something might come back.

There's so much they can do these days though it's amazing Fingers crossed

Starting capeticabine tablets today then a few oxyplatin drips in a few weeks as a precaution.

Hope all goes ok with you. Have you got another scan before your resection?

  • Good luck with the capox! Lots of nasty side effects- oxaly gave me bad pins and needles in hands and feet , but it fades in weeks2-3. Capecitabine gave me sore hands and feet- like sunburn. That's taking longer to fade! I should get another scan before liver op but no dates yet.

I have started a thread here  Managing a spread to the liver !

I hope to bookmark it and use it for new members starting out to let them see the different approaches used to treating a spread to the liver .

If you have time it would be great if you could contribute to it .

    No pressure .
    Many thanks ,
