Hello I have been here before for my daughter she is now fine but a very close friend is having problems after a stoma reversal he has no control over his bowel and is at his wits end as is his wife the hospital are saying oh give it time but it's been over 6wks he also has lopramide but to no avail the moment he stands up it just runs out. His cancer was very low in rectum but the surgeon said "there's no reason why the reversal should not work" that wouldn't instill me with confidence has anyone had a similar experience please...
Hi Lolly67 Yes it can take quite a while to settle down and loperamide can help - it should be taken 30 minutes before every meal. There’s lots of info on this board
Living well with a stoma reversal or LARS
Has he been practicing the sphincter exercises? They are described in this booklet on pages 24 and 25 and hopefully this would help him control things until the urge passes and he can get to a toilet?

Lastly there is a condition called LARS - low anterior resection syndrome and there is a fb page that he could apply to join with lots of helpful tips from people suffering the same
Hope this helps a bit
Take care
