Hi all,
I'm on my third course of chemo since I got diagnosed 5 years ago, I've had 7 cycles of FOLFOX this time, another 5 to go. I've been battling with mouth ulcers and the chemo nurses have given me some Difflam to ease it. My concerns was that Difflam numbs the pain for a short time, destroys the mouth microbiome, disinfect the ulcers but does not heal them. I've been drinking elm tea which somewhat soothes, but last week my nutritionist suggested taking a spoon full of coconut oil and keeping it in my mouth, around the ulcers, for 3-5min and then spit it out. I've been doing that twice a day, the sensation of hard coconut oil is a bit weird but fine once it 's melted. I started felling like the ulcers were coming but it never got to the stage it had previously got to, when brushing my teeth and eating was very painful!
Just thought I'd share for those also struggling with mouth ulcers.

Hi court ,
I just had a little dig and find these articles:

https://www.relainstitute.com/blog/mouth-ulcers/
The method is call oil pulling, although I didn't strictly follow it. I just put a teaspoon od coconut il in my mouth for a few minutes after brushing my teeth (brushing is painful so the oil afterward is soothing). Looks like the oil had anti-inflammatory and healing properties ad well as reducing the amount of bad bacteria.

Thanks very much for this Cecile .
I will get some to keep in the house .
And Arsey good point ! I will certainly make sure he does .
We were advised to add in pomegranate seeds when my mum was on Cetuximab as it help with gut absorption. Things like that really interest me especially when they are a natural product .
I had bought him probiotics tablets for the mouth and they help too .
Take care everyone and thanks again .
Very interesting.
