I was diagnosed with tumour in colon which spread to liver.
Phone call from nurse yesterday advised my results after treatment and all tests show that the tumour is gone . Im scared to be happy about it as I totally wasnt expecting that as was told to hope for it to shrink to allow surgery. So scared its wrong .
The tumours in liver have decreased with the chemo The petscan never Picked them up but the contrast mri picked did.
They are small and now they asking a liver specialist to advise where we go from here.
I now await an appointment with my consultant to discuss everything .
Any advice on what i can expect now .
Good evening !
I too had bowel cancer that spread to the liver . I had 5 x sessions of radiotherapy followed by 4 cycles of chemo (CAPOX). The treeent shrank the tumours quite a bit but not enough that I didn’t need surgery . Just before Christmas last year I had a bowel resection that removed what was left of the tumour in the bowel (tbf when had a follow up colonoscopy after treatment the nurses couldn’t see the tumour but the consultant could so just have been very small). With regards to the Liver , I had 3 tumours originally , 1 which shrank to the point it couldn’t be seen via scans and 2 others that had shrank but still needed removing . So at the start of last month I had a liver resection where they removed around 20% of my liver. The liver has the remarkable thing where is can grow back ! The surgery took about 4-5 hours and I was I. Hospital for a week . And now been home for last 5 weeks recovering. Had oncologist last week that is now happy to say I am clear of cancer. I will take further chemo in April (tablets only ) as a precaution and to hopefully reduce chances of reoccurrence
im no expert, and everyone’s journey is different but I would imagine that they’ll discuss the option of surgery as this is the best way to remove the tumours and can then send on for pathology for further testing .
here for any further questions you may have
take care
Jim
This is wonderful news . You sound a super responder .
Normally it goes to the MDT for the liver team if it’s a specialist centre of excellence.
They are fantastic. It can take a bit of time to go through this part and don’t be surprised if they like scans just before surgery . But once they agree a plan it can suddenly become all systems go .
My mum’s liver has been clear since 2010 . They did a fantastic job .
Take the time to build up your strength for the next part in becoming NED and putting this firmly in the rear view mirror .
take care ,
