After a bit of advise please 3 years ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had a partial nephrectomy I had my follow up scan in Feb and was still all clear so as you can imagine I was elated however this week I got the results back for a poo sample i sent of as part of the NHS screening programme there was blood in it so have to go for a colonoscopy i had a colonoscopy 3 years ago which was clear just wondering is the normal procedure

  • Hi  Yes that’s the normal procedure. Any sample showing blood in the stool needs investigating further however only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis. There are several things that can cause blood in stools like piles, colitis, diverticulitis etc. but always better to get checked out.

Hope it goes ok and please keep us updated?

    Take care
