Hi everyone,

I am starting my chemo tablets today Capecitabane am and pm. Is anyone having the same treatment as me?

  • Good afternoon Oldschool.

Welcome to this wonderful and supportive online group.

The journey for want of another word has started. Im.sure it must be such a relief that the start of treatment is now underway.

I was taking the same chemotherapy medication as you alongside daily radiotherapy.

Five and a half weeks of both. Quite a thing to get through.

Wishing you nothing but success and positive vibes.

  • Thank you for your reply.

  • Hi Oldschool

I took those tablets for 5 weeks this time last year combined with daily radiotherapy. The only symptoms I got was afternoon tiredness and periods of low energy. Some times I felt chills even though the house was warm. But nothing bad. Not sure which therapy caused these symptoms!!

Good news was after the 8 week scan no tumour was found although I did go on to have the LAR op a month later to remove the site of tumour.

    Good luck with your treatment!

    Richard.

  • Hi Oldschool,

I have been taking Capecitabine for four cycles (12 weeks) with infusion. and have four cycles left, this time without infusion.

Good luck, hope your treatment runs smoothly for you.

    Take care,

    Jayne

  • Hi Oldschool,

I’m due to start these tablets tomorrow after having my first IV drip of Oxilaplatin today.  Hope it goes well for you and we can see how we are each doing together.

    Good Luck,

    Craig

  • I  finished them last month- along with radiotherapy. It wasn't half as bad as I expected or was led to believe! I did lose my appetite, had the odd bit of nausea at the start(I think mainly through pure panic and terror- nurses advised me to just throw down the antinausea medication the minute I started to feel ill, rather than wait and try to tough it out- that worked)  and 1-2 loose stools but over  5 1/2 weeks, I consider I got off lightly. I got  a bit lactose intolerant, I think, but that's about it. I worked all through it, didn't feel like much of a social life (rubbish over Christmas and it felt a bit  like going back into lockdown crossed with some awful school exam timetable of radiotherapy) but I managed.  At the moment there is no visible sign of my evil tumour at all, so well worth it, I hope. Lots of luck.

  • Hi, I’m on cycle 2 day 12 of capecitabine (I have an oxiplatin infusion also on day 1. I have felt quite sick this round and sometimes suffer from diarrhoea but other than that I’ve been well.

Hope all goes well with your treatment.

    Rachael

  • It’s interesting how treatment differs at different hospitals, I have to take the capecitabine the evening of the infusion.

wishing you luck with your treatment.

  • Hello Oldschool.  I had the same drug-am & pm along with radiotherapy over 28 days - weekdays only. October/November 2023. I did have side effects which showed themselves halfway through the treatment. Soreness/blisters in the anal area.  I was given a cream by the oncology team which helped.  I bought a Sitz bath as it became so painful when going to the toilet. Filling this with warm water when going eased the pain.  I also suffered from diarrhoea towards the end of the treatment & this continued for 2/3 weeks after & then subsided to now & again.  I also got afternoon tiredness & low energy. The treatment was followed by several scans.  A scan in July showed the tumour had shrunk & No Evidence of Disease. A further scan in November also showed no tumour & No Evidence of Disease.  I will now have follow ups & scans x 2 this year & next year. If still NED, then 1 x scan for the next 3 years & if still NED, I will be discharged.  Sending you all best wishes & I hope you have the best outcome. Let us all know how you get on. Karen.
