Awaiting CT results

Hi all,

So I'm awaiting results for my five year CT scan thorax abdomen pelvis on a watch and wait program.

In the mean time I have had a rash of blood spots on the back of my calf for a few weeks so I sent pictures of this to my GP who rang me today.

He reckons it is HSP, which is usually seen in children, but when seen in adults can sometimes be associated with cancer.

So that makes it a bit more stressful awaiting the CT results. However my policy is to assume the CT results are going to be OK unless I hear otherwise.

What will be will be and it is all part of the journey for a watch and wait patient.

Best wishes,

Jogey

  • Hi Jogey

I am also on the T.A.P screening.

My son who is a radiographer told me the title.
    Thoracic,  Abdomen, Pelvic

I hope all goes well, I tend to think like you. Positive and enjoy every day

  • Great to hear from you Ann and thanks so much for the good wishes.

All best wishes to you too.

  • Thinking of you  . The waiting is always a challenge . I think our family became experts at compartmentalising as time went on . But it’s still a horrible process .

However holding out that all is well .

  • Agreed Court the anxiety or scanxiety really got to me and most here

It needs to be done but waiting for the results is worrying

    Keep us updated Jogey

  • Thanks Court and Artsie,

Yes I think waiting for scan results is a skill all of its own that we all learn.

I'm actually OK today as I wait to hear.

    Hopefully all will be well

  • Push to the back of your mind,

I find that I’m able to do that now as I’ve had a fair bit of practice. When it inches forward I distract self.
It’s only when the envelope comes it’s a big deep breathe and find out the results.

  • Thanks Artsie.

So the CT scan had good news and a bit of uncertain news. Good news was that they found no cancer in any of the organs outside the rectum.

However they did find some thickening of the wall of the rectum which the radiologist said should be examined by MRI.

I actually had the same finding at last year's CT scan,  and the subsequent MRI last year found no cancer. However I'll just wait to have the MRI and see.

I also had a blood test yesterday for HSP, a form of blood rash which can sometimes happen when adults have cancer. So another bit of uncertainty.

All business as usual for a long term watch and wait patient. Uncertainty is pretty much the name of the game.

In the mean time, I plan on enjoying every day.

You all have a good one too

  • Great attitude Jogey

Don’t let it interfere with your life.

    Cancer is a little ghoul

I went for mammogram two days ago she saw my scarring from my lobectomy and stoma and asked if I was I remission

I surprised myself answering. I don’t have to think about it until September. Ha ha

I put it on the calendar and forget it until it happens

I used to be a terrible worrier I have really changed.

A wise lady once said to me “ if I can’t fix the problem I don’t worry about it, I give it to someone that can fix it.”

    Thank Goodness for our NHS

    Treat yourself to something nice

    Best wishes

  • Well on the whole a good scan for sure but until they establish if it’s your new normal it seems they are going to remain vigilant in that area which I guess is a good thing if not a complete pain but it’s a great clinical team you have and they are taking no chances .

I am 100% certain it’s that level of diligence that has kept mum here for so long .

  • Thanks Court, so the CT scan came back with thickening around the circumference of the bowel so they've ordered
an MRI as this can examine it more closely and accurately. So am awaiting MRI date now.

At the same time am awaiting HSP results and interpretation from GP.

I believe it was the poet Keats who said we have to learn to live with uncertainty and that's one of the key skills I've learned as a cancer patient on watch and wait.

I hope you all have a great weekend
