I thought I'd post separately to my update thread in case I get a swift answer.
My wife her first session today, the nurse seemed quite flustered throughout and at the end she flushed with saline, I swear I had read that you shouldn't use saline with Oxaliplatin can anyone else who's had it reassure me she didn't do something wrong here?
I tried to ask her about it but she seemed to get more flustered...
Hi Governor I had my line flushed with saline while having oxaliplatin however it does seem to say on various google sites that it’s not compatible? If you’ve been given a 24 hour chemo helpline then perhaps you could ring them for reassurance?
Take care

As we've got to back tomorrow (see my main thread for details) I was planning on asking someone senior when I'm there if it's normal practice.
I'm somewhat reassured that you had it, but I'll still ask tomorrow, I can't quite tell what the implication is for the patient.
I'm my own worst enemy sometimes with building up knowledge, I also think our nurse being so vague didn't help me
Hi Governor
Interested in what they say as I have never heard of it . But can see why you would be concerned given Dr Google’s advice.
The only think I would say the clinics are inclined to run for primary cancer types and the nurses very familiar with the chemo implications and work closely with pharmacy. I would be very shocked if pharmacy was not all over the details .
Let us know if you find out as I think it’s the first this has come up .
Hope your wife is doing ok .
take care ,

I have had two intravenous sessions of Oxyplatin, at the end of which I was flushed with saline. This is completely normal. If you think about it logically, the opposite would be to assume that in my case two fully trained chemo nurses made a huge error, as did the nurses that simply checked up on me, the pharmacist and oncologist that authorised the treatment and the second nurse who performed a safety back up check. It’s normal to feel anxious during treatment
Appreciate that and it's partially due to me reading things, I think *technically* they're supposed to flush with 5% glucose followed by saline, essentially the Oxaliplatin isn't supposed to come into contact with Saline.
I had a good chat with better people today, I think the nurse yesterday didn't instill confidence which is never helpful, feel better about things today!
