I saw my oncologist and surgeon today who confirmed that after the chemo radiotherapy and then 4 cycles of CAPOX my cancer graded as Stage 3 on May has been successfully treated with no sign of any cancer now. I can't quite believe it and I hope it gives others on here hope that what seems like a devastating diagnosis can change . I'm in a bit of a strange place now having taken months to accept myself as a cancer patient to now accepting I no longer have cancer and have my life back. Is it normal to feel less than joyful at thjs stage more apprehensive that it might not last?

i will follow the wait and watch treatment plan with MRI and sigmoidoscopy every 12 weeks and a CT scan twice a year.

now to make some plans for 2024 which after months of not being able to make plans is a welcome change

  • What fabulous news  It sounds daft but yes it is normal to feel a bit deflated about it. I remember the oncologist waving me off and saying she never wanted to see me again and, instead of cartwheeling down the corridor, I felt slightly underwhelmed. I think it was a combination of not having my fortnightly hospital visits as reassurance and the ‘waiting for the other shoe to drop’ feeling.

Time is a great healer as they say and every clear scan and blood test will start to restore your confidence in yourself. A lot of people have found the paper below to be helpful and often come back to it over time

Hope you have lots of treats planned for 2024

    Take care

  • What great news! I’m so pleased to read this. I’m currently at the start of a similar journey, I have had surgery to remove a stage 3 grade 3 tumour and will be starting chemotherapy (CAPOX) some time in January.

  • Good luck Rac, I was stage 3 too and finished capox end of October
it can be a challenge but you’ll get through it. It feels like a distant memory for me now Blush

brilliant news Doris58, I totally understand your feelings, it’s all a bit odd but let’s enjoy 2024!
