Hi I finished 5 week treatment end of October for chemo and radiotherapy.have cancerous polyp which was unsafe to operate on and treatment was to shrink this. I feel ok after treatment and bowel symptoms have improved after treatment. I am hoping that surgery to remove rest of polyp (half was removed by flexible sygmiodoscopy before found cancerous) is all that is needed. Has anyone e else experienced this or is surgery still major after treatment x
Hi Katieliz and congratulations on completing your chemoradiotherapy. The next course of action will depend on how the polyp looks on the scan and your consultant will decide on the best course of action. I found that my symptoms improved after chemoradiotherapy and I’d had a 75% shrinkage of my tumour. I then had a Low Anterior Resection to remove the tumour.
Are you hoping for the rest of it to be removed by a sigmoidoscopy again?
Take care
Karen x
Hi Katieliz A low anterior resection is the operation for the removal of a rectal tumour. The bowel is then rejoined but a stoma is often formed to allow the join time to heal. I’ve attached a link to a booklet about some of the various ops?

I had my treatment in 2016/17 and I’m still ‘no evidence of disease’
