Hello to all fellow travellers.

I just started my chemo today, I was very apprehensive about it after all I have read but turned out quite pleasantly surprised. Very early start appointment at 0830 wasn't called to around 0930 then was prepped by lovely nurses, first getting PICC line operational etc. Then a young man came around offering everybody tea/coffee a scones, biscuits or fruit all free (very nice). The nurse then proceeded connecting the chemo drips, all you can do is to lie there reading a book or whatever, it can seem like a long time but what's your options. I went in around 0930 and was leaving around 1500 mainly because the pharmacist had to discuss meds.

As for after the chemo so far I feel OK no sickness or anything that wasn't there beforehand, fingers crossed it remain like this. I sincerely hopes this might help someone going thro the same thing and feeling scared like I was.

Lastly I wish everyone a Very Merry Xmas and a better healthy New Year

Gordon

  • No problem, just hope I remember.

All the best to you and yours.

  • Glad it all went well, I was very well looked after on my first one and most of my lovely nurses are still there three years on, they soon get to know you!  Good to get the first one under the belt, hope the side effects stay minimal.

  • Many thanks,  keep well.

  • Hi Gordon it's zainab here ... just read your post ..I'm in the kind of same boat as you i was diagnosed with classic hodgkins lymphoma in October and didn't start treatment till 5 December 2023 ..so currently I'm on day 11 of chemo...chemo day 1 was the worst for me bcos the sickness and was only given anti sickness during the chemo which was pretty bad so it wasn't a great start since then iv been doing okay ...but today just been feeling the symptoms kicking in 0 energy and feeling sick again.. I just really wanted someone to talk to whose going through something similar to me.

  • hi Zoggy

You have my sympathy with your probs; only lucky ones seem to avoid problems. Personally a few days after chemo I suffered chronic diaherra and severe stomach pains Im not sure if the problems are due to the operation I had just before they found the cancer in my colon or the reaction to Chemo, I'm due my second installment next week so Im not over enthusiastic about it (a pain in the ass) literally.

If you read a lot of the comments on this site you'll see that a lot of them are hero's in their own right they just refuse to let it drag them down, a brilliant attitude which I'm trying to live up too.

So  anyway enough of my gripes, you and all connected to you have a fantansic Christmas and a Healthy New Year.

  • Thanks for replying to me ... yh I suppose u have to experience something during chemo..my thing has been just to take each day as it comes... kind of waiting and counting down till the next cycle but obviously not looking forward to it ..so another 10 days to go...but I just hope we all get through this x

  • Hi  Were you not given any antisickness meds to take home with you? I was given some tablets called ondansetron and told to take them for the first few days then as and when if needed. If you’re really struggling then give your 24 hour chemo helpline a ring - they’re not just tor emergencies - and see if they can help?
Keep talking to your support team because if one tablet doesn’t work then trying a different one can make all the difference
