my dad has to have a low fibre diet which he’s finding difficult. Can anyone advise any recipes to keep it interesting? Is he allowed to eat apple sauce? Thanks in advance

I find risotto a very helpful option. You can vary the stock for flavour, but always have the staple chicken or fish + white rice. You can then slowly introduce a little of amount of one veg to see how the bowel copes. I skipped onions and oil as I couldn't process those well.
Can be trial and error but at least it is flavoursome and nutritious as you go

So far we have been told it’s cancer in the right side of bowel, op is planned for 27th December but that’s it at the moment. Trying to get in touch with the nurses to get some info. I wasn’t with h as they told he would get an appointment & they phoned & told him

I found exactly the same as your Dad. I so missed colour in my food
I found a loose leaf, with a cucumber cut in half with seeds scooped out with tea spoon, radish, spring onion. I could also tolerate beetroot however each of the ingredients I used to make my salad I tried individually before I had the full salad.
I couldn’t tolerate lettuce for some reason but the small leaves, spinach and micro salad were fine

High output is inconvenient but manageable, but no one wants a blockage.
I found the 3C advice useful for any vegetable matter: Chop it (small), Cook it, Chew It.
Skin and seed tomatoes, roast and skin peppers to add colour to salads or other meals
I also found that sticking to a routine breakfast/lunch that resets things meant a bit more flexibility in the evening meal.
He might like a kedgeree, with the boiled egg chopped fine and just a hint of curry powder. As a quick standby we often have a packet of off-the-shelf filled tortellini with a pot of tomato and basil sauce stirred in (don't forget the grated parmesan). Again, quick and easy is off-the-shelf battered balls of fish on microwaved egg fried rice with a jar of sweet and sour sauce - but not the hard bits of veg. Beansprouts, nuts, mushrooms, peas, tomato skins, most fine salad leaves and al dente vegetables seem to be totally indigestible in my altered digestive system!! I have a RH permanent loop ileostomy - which works well - plus a LH mucous fistula which is mostly passive. Most foods can be eaten without a problem, apart from those listed above, but one soon finds this out out by trial and error. Chewing food thoroughly makes a lot of difference and is a pretty basic procedure (something I never used to do pre-op).
