Hi all, Well like all of you i never expected to find myself here. 14 months ago I had a hysterectomy, following this bowel movements became painful, when I say painful some of them could literally take my breath away. However I thought this was part of the healing process, fast forward to this year, I thought the continued pain was due to scar tissue. Then a few weeks ago I started with pain on my right side that just would not go and still hasn't. Bowel movements go from constipation to diorreah (no idea how to spell that one). However I thought maybe my pain meds could be causing this. So I took myself to the gp and she ordered full blood tests, stool and Fit test. I then got a call to say the Fit test was positive at 36 and today I've found out my bloods are abnormal. B12, Serum Folate, Serum Phosphate and bone profile, all lower than they should be. I'm now in complete panic mode. I have a colonoscopy booked for next Wednesday. Trying my best to stay off google but it's so hard. I'm a single mum to 3 kiddies, today has been so hard to paint on a big smile for them. I lost my dad this year, my mum is currently in hospital and its my birthday on wendesday. I was already dreading my birthday without dad and now have 2 added worries just thrown in the pot. I'm really hoping it's something and nothing, but really hard to stay positive with results that show something is clearly going on
Hi Miss Rainbow and a warm welcome to the board although I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had such a tough year. Please stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date and you’ll end up in a tail spin.
Only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis and there are other things that can cause similar symptoms like crohns, colitis, diverticulitis, polyps etc.
Try not to let your thoughts run away with you. The colonoscopy is the first step to finding out the cause of your problems so try to distract yourself until you know exactly what you’re dealing with.
Try and put on a front and celebrate your birthday as best you can with your children. We’re here if you need a hug and the support desk is there 7 days a week from 8-8 if you want to chat to someone in person
Take care and please keep posting
Karen x
