So we had Tony's latest CT scan results today and as expected his cancer has progressed quite significantly in his liver and it's likely that his inability to eat and loss of appetite is probably down to the cancer burden..so together with the oncologist Tony has decided no more treatment is viable as he is so frail it would do more harm than good..so we are now being referred to the Community Palliative Team and Hospice for symptom management...Tony has told me he isn't scared and is being very stoic and as he said it ain't over till it's over plus he said he was sick of everybody nagging him about his eating so he can now do what he wants..for my part it was what I expected and it's a relief to know that I have support when things do get worse but as the oncologist said Tony seems relatively stable at the minute and the cancer isn't particularly aggressive so we take each day as it comes...I feel awkward putting less than positive news up as everybody is at different points of their journey as I dont want to put people back mentally but I couldn't be more proud of Tony at the moment...sending love and positivity to all you warriors and your carers...keep going...xx

  • Hi

You have both been wonderful . You are an incredible team . I totally agree with you . Whilst we do everything in our power to facilitate treatment we also have to know when it’s time to stop and enjoy one day at a time .

He sounds such a strong man and you are right to be proud of him but I am as equally proud of you watching how you have supported him. Not many people get to experience love like this .

  • Hi Ellen93

So sorry to read the position you are in but I've been there and it is horrible but as you say our spouses are `warriors` well mine `was` he battled bowel cancer for almost 2 years and took everything- even the kitchen sink they could throw at him. He was clear for about 5 months when he got his surgery in January 2022 but it came back with a vengeance in May 2022. Chemo sessions after that caused damage to his kidneys so had to be withdrawn completely and then continuous bouts of sepsis happened and the 4th one along with his cancer finally took him on June 23rd this year. The Palliative team are good but in the end we didn't need them that much as he just passed a few weeks after they were assigned to us. I am now going through the same thing with my sister but we have been told that her bowel cancer diagnosis is not as serious as my husbands was and hopefully it will be a case of getting her's cut out and she should make a full recovery. I just feel I am re-living the whole saga all over again because her surgery team were the one's who looked after my husband which I don't mind because I know them and the whole procedure she went for her pre-surgery assessment last week and she goes for her surgery this coming Wednesday. I wish you well going forward and as you say, taking things each day as it comes is about all you can do. My Best Wishes to you.

    Vicky xx
