Im soon to start my WK 4 off 5 chemo/radiotherapy. All going okay as far as i know.  Bloods taken last week and weekly review nurse said all okay.

But today I receive an appointment in mail  in for a nurse next week . doesn't say what for.

Speciality says unspecified .

Please tell me if i was getting any bad news it wouldn't be a nurse telling me .

Im in such a panic now can't think straight

  • I've just completed 5 weeks of CRT.  Had a weekly review with RT team and weekly review with chemo nurse.  Also had a few letters thrown into the mix with oncologist appt at end of week 4, which evidently wiped out the weekly RT or Chemo reviews, which were really thorough and the oncologist appt was a 2 min - are you OK? and over rides those better reviews. I needed the RT review, my oncologist wasn't going to give me advice on what I needed.

No one told me this 4  appt was a 'review'.  Don't panic, ask the RT team if you can, you are there everyday and they know you.  If it is an abnormal review, they will say.   I flippin' hate bog standard hospital letters.  I'm sure it is nothing sinister Smiffey, just an additional review.   Make sure you get the usual ones though, especially if you have additional side effects.  I found the RT reviews were brilliant and they prescribed me everything I needed and reassured me.    If your bloods are OK it is all good.  Also, make sure you have every thing you need for when you finish your 5 week treatment.  I'm 2 weeks past that now.  Feeling good (tired) but all the creams etc have kept side effects at bay for me. I have a big bag of meds if things get tough, but I've not needed all of them.

Also, you have your support nurse to ask.

  • Hi Smiffey. I had a mid-treatment review with a nurse where she checked that I was coping ok and also looked over the area being treated to make sure there was no soreness or signs of the skin breaking down.

As Arsey says, I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about but you could ask the radiographers at your next appointment if you need some reassurance?

    Take care
