Rectal pain

Good morning folks,
I had my operation over a week ago to remove a tumour on my lower bowel, initially it was to involve a permanent Stoma. However, that couldn't be done because of serious scar tissue.

My question now is how long does the rectal pain last? I was told I had something inserted into the anus which through time dissolves.
Any help please.
Robbie.

  • Hi,  if you had the lower bowel/rectum dissected and an anastomosis, then they insert the staple gun into the anus instead of stitching. Usually for a LAR I believe. My coccyx hurt for quite a while after, as they obviously hit it, but the pain did stop. Maybe it was something like this? You haven't said what your operation was, so I'm guessing! Take care

  • I was initially booked in for a resection with permanent stoma , I had a tumour on the lower bowel.

But because of scar tissue caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy the couldn’t remove it via the rectum or I would have bled out.

Therefore the Stoma wasn’t done, they took out a disc shaped piece of the bowel hoping they have all the tumour.

The surgeon said there was something inserted in the Anus that would gradually dissolve. Thanks
    Robby.

  • Hi  I’m really sorry that I can’t offer you any advice but you could maybe post this in the Ask the Nurse section?
