Hi
please if anyone can reassure me or give me some positivity?
my mum had bowel cancer 2 years ago - had it surgically removed then took chemo tablets for 6 months as a mop up
now 2 years later
she went for a routine blood test and a marker was up so was sent for a ct scan - they rang to say it was all clear but have found a 3 cm mass in her lung
It’s now being passed to the multi disciplinary team and have to wait
she is 70 so fit and well and it just feels like the world has fallen in again and I don’t know how to navigate this
Hi Joa
There is lots that can be done for the lung . My mum had surgery on a lung met . That was successful for seven years . She currently has another one but using a targeted treatment and still has a good quality of life .
There is also a treatment called radio frequency ablation and chemotherapy . If it is a tumour they will make sure the correct pathway for her and get it stabilised. My mum was 73 when she had her lung surgery and was home two days later . She is 81 now and holding her own .
Hang on in there . Her team will work out all the details at the MDT . It gives you a terrible fright .

Hi ,
My mum’s oncologist described hers as small , the latest being two cm . That surprised me but apparently most primary lung tumours are around 4 cm at diagnosis.
They like as much shrinkage as possible , currently my mum has had good shrinkage .
When she was scanning more frequently she was picked up around 8mm the first time round . That’s maybe why you are reading mm . Not everyone has mets that are only mm . My mum’s liver tumour was 5 cm and that was one .

Hi! I had surgery for colorectal cancer 3 years ago followed by chemo but a year ago a ct scan revealed 3 lung nodules, confirmed cancerous by biopsy. I had 6 months chemo, finished in March. I am now having 13 rounds of SABR, Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy. These are really high but precisely targeted doses that should completely destroy the nodules and the aim is curative, although you can never be sure it will never come back again, but there are some really good results. The good news for your Mum is that is is confined to one organ. I have to admit the past year has been a roller coaster, not easy. Going through treatment is hard but there is a light at the end. I hope your Mum gets a treatment plan soon, the wait is awful.
Take care,
Cecile
just been told they want my mum to go for a PET scan - is this because they think / and it’s likely that it’s spread further than the CT scan picked up? Or is this normal procedure? I’m barely functioning as I’m so scared and I feel like I’ve ‘written my mum off’ already
please if anybody can help
Hi Joa
The often like them prior to things like surgery . My mum always had to have one when they were lining her up for surgery just to make sure there is no other disease . Nothing was every thrown up that the CT scan was not showing already for my mum .
Some surgeons also like scans up in theatre for reference.
It’s easy to worry about everything until you hear for sure the plan. Totally normal .
