Not fully diagnosed limbo

On Wednesday I had my colonoscopy after blood found in my stools test. The awful news that they found a 3cm (what they are calling a lesion) the consultant informed me that he has no doubt it’s cancer and I will need surgery and possibly chemo. I have been trying to stay positive but it’s getting increasingly hard as I’ve had very mild symptoms stomach cramps constipation indigestion for almost 10 years had a camera 9 years ago but nothing detected. The  consultant on Wednesday said it’s high up on right so may not been detected. I’ve had  breathing difficulties for at least past 5 years and  had Ct scans on my  my heart and lung areas and told I had heart disease and asthma but I’m now wondering if it’s cancer all along and as consultant said it’s in the bit below heart and lungs and not been detected. The wait for more test and staging is excruciating I don’t know what I am supposed to do just wait? Talk to someone ? Do nothing ? Look for help ? So I thought I would ask on here in the hope that others might know some answers or can point me to some help while I wait

  • Hi  I’m so sorry that you’re in that awful period between diagnosis and treatment. Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing, so try not to assume the worst. I had a 6cm tumour and virtually no symptoms. Have you been assigned a specialist nurse? That’s usually the first thing hospitals seem to do. If you have, talk to them. They are the go to people throughout this awful process. I’m not sure if any of them work over the weekend, so give Macmillan a call. I did last Sunday and they were very reassuring. Don’t sit and worry all over the weekend. Write down any questions you can think of, that way you’ll have them ready to ask your specialist nurse on Monday. The Macmillan nurses won’t want to be specific as they won’t have your hospital records to go on. Come on this site as often as you want to, or need to. No judgement and there aren’t any silly questions. Do take care.

  • Hi Jools63 thank you for responding I will definitely call on Monday. I have been assigned a nurse but she was away due back next week so hopefully all will be much clearer soon it’s just awful waiting. I hope your treatment and care has very positive outcomes thanks so much for your message. Take Care of yourself

  • Hi

Similar to you as in limbo.

Been diagnosed been told chemo and surgery but waiting on oncology to get sorted .

The waiting is the worst .

  • Hi Smiffey I hope you get some answers soon I’m going to reach out for support tomorrow I hope you can too . Take care

  • Hi

The waiting, not knowing is tough. That I found my head went into overdrive I had cancer everywhere especially at night  I actually didn’t but that’s what I imagined

My nurse was fab and direct  she helped keep me from going into overdrive

I listened to apps on my phone which gave me some head space ate the easiest food to process and had two meal supplement drinks which gave me the energy to practice my pelvic floor

Do whatever you can to fill the time I hope that you get in touch with your team soob

    sending you a hug

  • I’m doing exactly that Ann imagining the worst, I guess that’s a normal response. Today I feel emotionally better with support of friends and family and the replies to my post on here. Take care of yourself and thanks for the supportive message sending a hug right back

  • That’s a good idea Artsie I will download some Apps I am struggling to eat but hope that will improve. I’m finding it impossible to read right now so not attempting to research. Take care and thank you for you kind advise

  • Aw thanks

Tis lovely to get a virtual hug

It is natural to think the worst. If you click on my name you can read my back story.
It’s long winded but I’ve been diagnosed with two primary cancers. The bowel first then on my year CT check I had lung it was not a spread just some silly cells doing whatever.

Well alls in the bin now and I’m just back from Spain enjoying the cooler weather. Gosh it was hot. Gorgeous but hot

    Take care

  • Oh just noticed your diet issue

I was recommended low fibre small and often. I couldn’t process my food without discomfort so I ate small beige type meals and drank meal supplements

It goes against the grain I know. I’ve been eating white bread since my LAR.

I found keeping a food diary really helpful. You can see what’s causing the issues.

  • Hi - I agree that the waiting is the worst especially when you’re told 10 days before your appointment that the results weren’t what were expected but they couldn’t be given over the phone! I was diagnosed in April with 2 tumours. Am now halfway into the 3rd of 4  sessions of capox. When treatment is finished got to have op.  Hope you get sorted soon - I’ve been very lucky as I have a very good team looking after me
