I have had really bad bouts of diarrhoea since starting my chemo radiation to the point where I have only left the house to go to the hospital for my treatments. It also made me feel sick due to the cramping. I was using the Loperamide for the diarrhoea alongside metoclopramide for nausea but this also caused the diarrhoea to be worse! This week I was prescribed Ondansetron instead of metoclopramide and it has been amazing! No more diarrhoea but I was warned it can cause constipation instead with some seepage. My question is has anyone used this to sort out a similar problem and what advice can you offer on terms of how often to use the new medication to get a happy medium?
thanks
Claire
I found Ondansetron highly effective against diarrhoea. 2-3 doses of 8mg for the first few days and then gradually weaned off. I take 4mg every other day to manage my long term condition called LARS. The key is to reduce/stop if you find you’re not going to the loo. As we are all so different, it will be trial and error. Extra security from incontinence pants provided an element of peace of mind.
