Diagnosis Process - Help Required

Hello All,

My aunt a few months ago had one of those NHS fit tests and an anomaly was detected and following a colonoscopy, they removed 8 polyps which were all benign; there was a 9th one which was 20 mm and could not be removed via colonoscopy and was removed via the TAMIS procedure. The report described this as a polyp worth investigating.

The surgery was two weeks ago and this morning she got a call inviting her for an appointment on Wednesday next week at the hospital with a colorectal nurse, the man who called to make the appointment said he didn't have access to the results and was just told to make an appointment.

My aunt is freaking out that they are going to break the news that she has cancer.

Has anyone been through this process?

Fergus

  • Hi

Sorry to hear this has caused so much anxiety. It would be normal protocol to go through all results . Sometimes even to say something is inconclusive or requires more monitoring . Not always a difficult diagnosis.

    Hope that helps some ,

  • Thank you for this, some updates my end. My aunt had her appointment with the colorectal nurse and the 20mm polyp was adenomous (cancer) and confined to the polyp and they excised it  and no further action was required  other than surveillance.

The nurse said they would organise a baseline ct scan and review every six months.

She had her baseline scan two weeks ago and today got a call saying the consultant wanted to see her for further investigation.

any idea what this means ?
