Good afternoon,
Just a quick update.
So we went to the hospital today for my husbands CT scan tattoos and treatment plan.
He starts Radiotherapy on 11th July for 5 and half weeks, during which he will be taking chemotherapy tablets every day.
I am stressing as I don't drive my husband wants to drive every day but I am unsure if he will be able to.
On top of that I work and haven't got enough holidays to take.
I don't want him to go on his own either. There always seems to be something to add to the pressure of life.
Sorry to be moaning, just having a crap day.
Hi Cath,
It is so hard to try and arrange anything at the moment as my husband is adamant he will be driving.
We are at The Christie and parking is great there, just don't know if he will be ok to drive.
I keep mentioning transport to him but he is so stubborn.
Hope you are well xx
Hi Kell Sug.
I'm with Star74 on this one.
Allowing your husband a little freedom and choice, at a time when cancer can feel rather in the driving seat in so many aspects, can be very positive for him.
And as Star74 suggests, you can leave the option of hospital transport or you doing occassional lifts on the table should he ever wish to change his mind.
Personally, I've found protecting my independence (wherever i practically could) really valuable through my treatment.
Thank you star74
I think we are going to see how we get on.
I am just stressed out trying to sort everything out at once.
I just want to make sure my husband is happy and focused on getting better.
How are you? How did you find radiotherapy?
Take care xx
It wasn't too bad, the hardest part was the tiredness but luckily I had morning appointments so I could go home and have a nap if I wanted. I had to have a full bladder which can be tricky if there were delays but the TV screens announced how long the delay was so you could work around it. The people were absolutely lovely and put me at ease and you soon get to know them all. It seems like it will take forever to get to the last one but it actually goes quick once you get into the swing of things. Tell him to take a book!
Hi. My treatment was in a busy city so I used to drive to the railway station and get the train and then the bus then do the reverse and go into work. The actual treatment only takes about 10 minutes so I used to ask for the earliest appointment necessary to avoid any backlogs.
As Crumpets says it felt good to be doing it myself rather than putting on others and it also kept things ‘normal’ for me - call it denial maybe but I just kept doing what i always did as much as possible x
Don’t apologise for moaning you’re dealing with a lot right now. I was lucky and had a private taxi paid for by my local council! The downside of that being no control over when they picked me up or collected me to go home. They were late for my first appointment so it was incredibly stressful. I too had to have a full bladder, so keeping an eye on any delays was important. I agree with the others that giving your husband a choice while he feels up to it is really important. My hospital was an 80 mile round trip, so I’m not sure if I could’ve managed that, and the stress of parking once you got there! Do take care of yourself, and be lead by your husband for now at least.
Hi Faloola
My mum had them . If you let them know they give you a mouth wash . The hospital one did not do much but her GP had a rolls Royce one he gave her and they disappeared and so far so go no reappearances.
Your treatment seems to have the same side effects to mum .
Take care ,
Court
