Today is a low day..hubby was told in March that he was incurable and inoperable but that he could start Folfiri and Cetuximab on 19th April..first 9 days were amazing but then he was struck down with severe sickness and stomach cramps and hasn't been right since..his next chemo session was delayed to 17th May but Tony spent Sunday in Casualty on an IV drip due to renewed nausea and sickness and was so weak he could hardly stand as he hasnt eaten properly for at least two weeks..after Sunday he felt so much better and had quite a bit to eat in hospital and I thought we had turned a corner but today the stomach cramps are back and he hasn't eaten a thing as everything tastes awful..he has been in bed all day mainly..I'm currently waiting for Oncology to call me back but the stress of trying to get him to eat is getting to me and I honestly don't know want to think anymore...the nausea still comes and goes and I feel such despair as I keep thinking this is the end approaching..

  • Hi

It is so distressing when chemo causes such issues and it’s totally understandable. It’s hard as you image it’s disease progression . However I think stopping eating and dehydration can really impact them and even knock their electrolytes off . My mum did that with her potassium and she could not stand , was sick and confused . However after being admitted to hospital they got her onto IV fluids and balances out her electrolytes. However it took a bit of time to keep them up !They dropped off and had to get supplements .
Someone told me the affected taste is due to the good blood supply to the tongue allows the drugs to go to the area quicker giving a metallic taste .
Have you got a good GP ? You could approach them too and get him checked . You definitely need help to manage this .
