Hi
Hubby was diagnosed with bowel cancer with spread to liver, lungs, adrenal glands 7 weeks ago. 5 weeks ago had bowel resection and colostomy due to bowel obstruction.
Today we saw the oncology consultant who was very good. There is no curative treatment and due to a heart problem they can’t offer IV chemo. Choice was try oral chemo or nothing and enjoy getting stronger after surgery. We have opted to try oral chemo with regular reviews.
At least we have a plan and some time frames now. I feel hubby is in denial and not taking it in or wanting to take it in.
im the one whose emotional !
Hi, sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. It’s pretty much the same as mine only mine is recurrent after 10 years of being in remission.
Strangely I’m the one who is not emotional it’s my family. He’s maybe not in denial he’s maybe just accepted that it is what it is I no I have. It’s truly amazing where you get the strength from. That doesn’t mean you give up it just means you can’t change it so you work with what you’ve got and make the best of a bad situation.
I was diagnosed last August I’ve had no Chemo to date but starting in June. So that’s roughly 11 months since diagnosis with No Chemo. I’ve had 3 monthly scans and the oncologist said it was growing marginally which meant it’s growing slow. He said mines is a good tumour, I just looked at him and laughed is there such a thing.
I will think about you both on your journey ️

Hi Helen!
Faloola is right and what a `positive wee wummin she is`. My husband has just been told that they can give him no further treatment at present either. He is in hospital recovering from his 3rd bout of sepsis. I am the one who is an emotional wreck. He on the other hand has accepted it as Faloola says `it is, what it is`. We spoke to palliative care today well I did via speaker phone as covid has prevented me from physically going up the hospital this week. I felt slightly better in what they told us. He was supposed to come home today but palliative want him to stay there just now because he has been having a lot of stomach discomfort and they want to get that sorted and I am pleased at that for the fact I am still getting over covid and could infect him and I would rather he come home without any pain and have to be readmitted again. Someone from oncology was in to speak with him too- another speakerphone call and said because his immune system is so weak just now any kind of cancer treatment cannot be considered just now. Radiotherapy was discussed at a team meeting yesterday apparently but decided that couldn't be an option either. It's his kidneys they seem worried about just now and just want to get his pain management going and mobility going again. They have said once he gets home a consultation can be made to see the oncologist herself and discuss further so for now they've kind of left it in a basket and not said yes or no but maybe.
