Feeling a bit devastated at the moment, after 4 lots of clear scans, my nurse phoned me to tell me they have now found a small met on my lung. I asked what size she said 6mm, she said she as emailed the team that ablated my liver. So it looks like RFA on the lung. I finally got a surgeon who said he would operate on my very large painful hernia. He took me off he’s books in 2020 because of the bowel cancer. When I told the nurse this she said we will do the ablation after the surgery. I’ve got an appointment no surgery date as yet. I said NO, I need to have the ablation. Now I don’t know if I can have the hernia done. This was not my usual nurse , she-was on holiday and due results this Thursday. If this one had been clear I would have gone to every 6 months instead of every three months. My cancer and the hernia treatment are two different hospitals. I know every one say get on with your life but I’m in so much. I feel gutted and the what ifs and the dark thoughts are rife. What I’m not understanding is I kept being told I was clear, but this said they have been watching this spot, no one has ever mentioned the lung before, I know I have simple cysts on my liver. Sorry for the rant I hope it makes sense, I’m all over the place. Hope everyone is ok Nelly 55
Oh Nelly1955
Give yourself time to find your feet and I know you will . The power of good scanning is nipping these tiny mets in the Bud before they have a chance to get established. Mum had one removed at 8mm and it was by far the easiest procedure she has had . I will be honest it really troubled me when we found out but it turned out to be very straightforward.
It is clearly slow growing and they will definitely deal with it ,
However as one dr said 70% is the impact it has on your mental health . We are here for you every step of the way but wish you did not have to go through it .
Take care ,

Thank you Court, and now on top of everything else the hernia that they said was too big to get obstructed is now obstructed, I’m in hospital with a tube up my nose going down to my stomach because they don’t want to do an emergency operation. My MDT are disgusting me tomorrow so I hope with this added stuff I hope they do the ablation quicker.. I have an appointment at another hospital about the hernia on the 28th, not sure of what s going to happen now, what with the lung met as well. Hope your mum and yourself are doing well. Take care. Hi Nelly
I hope that your hernia will soon be sorted out - & obviously, you are in the right place at the moment for this to happen.
I was diagnosed in March 2020 with two lung nodule mets (from bowel cancer the preceding year.) Mine were also small - at 3.5 & 5mm, and in the same lobe. I was fortunate to be offered RFA; however, I was put on 8 cycles of Chemo prior to this, with the hope of shrinkage. I only managed 6 cycles, before suffering some debilitating side effects, so, the chemo was stopped - but the treatment worked to reduce the size of both tumours, & I was ready for the ablation to be carried out. I was offered a cancellation on a Friday, & went into hospital on the following Monday - in October '20.
The procedure was under GA, but was very simplistic & I was discharged the following day - & went about my life as normal, without any necessary restrictions. There was no pain, & no scarring involved. If offered to anyone, I would highly recommend it. Unlike myself, you may not even need chemo beforehand. (I may have had to - because I had two nodules.)
Wishing you the very best

Hi Marianne, thank you for replying I’m still in hospital with a tube going up m nose and into the stomach to rest my stomach, my daughter was on phone to ask questions. I don’t know what it is but one says one thing and someone else say something else. First of all big concerns because obstructed, then no not obstructed and inoperable. So today she put him on the spot and he had to say what the scan said yes it was an obstruction but they have to treat it conservator whatever that means. I’m going to Charring Cross next week to see a plastic surgeon there who does abdominal wall construction. I was supposed to go to him in 2020 but cancer put me off his books. I not sure he will do it now due to lung met. I’m being disgust . today in the MDT meeting. I had a liver met ablated in 2021, if I was still clear this time I would have had 6 monthly between scans. The nurse told me it was small and treatable, she didn’t think I would need chemo but I suppose I will hear that today. Once again thank you for replying. Hope you are well and hope you made a good recovery after hurting your leg. Take care and sending hugs xx
Hi Court and Marianne, hope you don’t mind me asking. I had a call from the nurse today, she has spoken with the doctor who did my liver ablation, he says this one s so small he said he wants to wait and scan again in three months, or the next availability is middle of June. She said it is slow growing. I’ve asked her to pencil in June, I just want it out. I’m going to see the surgeon about the hernia on Friday. I’m worried that he won’t do anything because the cancer is back. I also asked the nurse how long the cancer was there she said a while, they are sure it is cancer because she said that the radiologists know their stuff. I was never told about it and told I was clear I even asked about prognosis, she said they have had stage 4 and discharged them from their care. I wondered if you know if anyone had any operations for other problems apart from cancer even if they have a small bit, of cancer. when I saw this surgeon back in November he was saying about not wanting to disturb any cancel cells. Thank you
Hi Nelly
I think it's all to do with priorities in your case. It sounds like obviously you want your Hernia treated asap, as I expect it has caused you a lot of problems recently,
I have no idea if they would treat this at the moment - because of your underlying cancer. That is something that you will need to discuss with the surgeon in that department.
Regarding your Lung Met, I can only speak from my own experience. I had two - the largest was 5mm (the size of a pea.) They were discovered after a PET Scan in March - & were ablated that October. I have heard that Lung Mets are very slow growing.
So, I was Stage 4 at that time (2020,) but my scans since then have all been clear, & I am now on yearly scans.
I hope this may help you,
Marianne x
Hi Nelly1955
I have never heard that school of thought about operations spreading cancer but I have heard them get concerned around interfering with the treatment plans and making cancer care the priority.
One thing for sure this must be incredibly small and certainly seems to have options .
Hold onto that !
Take care ,

Hi Marianne, thank you for your reply. Chemo hasn’t been mentioned. My nurse said if they scanned again in 3 months they expect it would have grown maybe another 2 mm. I asked them to put me down for June which was one of the options. When I go Friday I will get a better idea. To keep going into hospital with this pain and vomiting every few weeks is getting me down and this last bout was awful so it is getting worse. When my daughter asked the way forward be cause they say it is inoperable it is come back which has words to that effect on my discharge papers. I hope the surgeon at Charring Cross is an expert in abdominal wall reconstruction. It has been a big impact on dealing with the cancer. Im so happy that you have stayed clear. I was just a bit upset at I was going to be six monthly. I will now keep 3 monthly. Sending hugs xx
Hi Court, thank you for your reply. They don’t seem to think there is a hurry for the lung, but I told the nurse I just want it out. I just praying the surgeon at Charring Cross can operate on what I’ve been told is inoperable. Last time I went A&E where I get my cancer treatment told me if it got worse they would operate, well is got worse, I don’t want to keep going in and have a tube down my throat. I just don’t understand everyone you see tells you something different. That is why my daughter wanted me to phone when the morning doctors come around. I have been told they would not want to operate in an emergency. Hope your mum is doing well. Hope she is doing well in her new treatment. Sending hugs x
