My husband has stage 4 bowel cancer with spread to his liver he has been on Folfox with targeted Panitumumab and after his 6th cycle they have just scanned him and yesterday we found out that his mets have shrunk enough that the surgeons are now happy to resect. This is all really positive news. My worry is he has been off his chemo now for 3 weeks as the oncologist wanted to hear from the MDT meeting in case they needed a PET scan and now they have delayed it again due to us seeing the surgeon. Which we now have the appointment for the 22nd March and who knows when the operation will be. I am worried that the cancer in this long break will start to grow and he will then not be able to have the operation. I am sure they know what they are doing but I can’t help feeling scared
has anyone been in this position before and can offer some advice ?
many thanks Al
Hi Gonzo
Well done both of you . You have endured the months of waiting to arrive at this wonderful place where treatment has been successful.
The way I viewed it the surgeons know the margins they have to work with and that includes the factored regrowth . My mum had actually two months between scans and surgery. What I would say these centres of excellence suddenly move with speed and he could be in theatre with a weeks notice so be prepared .
Hold onto this good news .
Take special care and it’s time to draw strength before surgery .

Hi.
Sending hugs. Hope our experience helps you to feel less scared
My husband had his last chemo on 6th jan. He had been scheduled for another chemo on the 18th which they cancelled without giving us any reason which caused us a huge amount of stress. He had a CT scan that day with an MRI on 9th Jan. We then had an appointment with his oncologist on 13th were he advised they were now happy to consider surgery. The appointment with the surgeon went well and they decided on a PET scan which was carried out and another appointment was made to discuss the scan and the surgery. The day before the appointment we had a call saying it was cancelled as they now needed an MDT meeting. We were given another appointment for the following week. The very next day we received a call with a date for surgery for 2 days after the rescheduled appointment with the proviso the MDT meeting went well. We had his appointment on 15th February and surgery went ahead on 17th. Last Thursday at the post op appointment we were told he is cancer free after 6 lesions removed from his liver (3 were ablations) xx
Thank you so much court and Specs both of your replies have definitely made me feel calmer in the situation. I am now preparing lots of questions for our oncologist this week when we see her and also the surgeon the week after. Specs what wonderful news about your husband I hope he is recovering well.
Take care Al xx
