So Tony has received an appointment in two weeks time to discuss his first surveillance scan results..his appointment is with the oncologist so we are now very worried as he was discharged from oncology in September 22 and was told then they he wouldn't see him unless there was a problem so we are thinking the cancer is back somewhere..I mean could this be very bad news as there seems to be no rush to see him and discuss any treatments..I mean maybe there is nothing they can do..forgive me for saying that out loud....my worst nightmare... .anxiety is so high now .it just seems very unfair to makes us wait another two weeks
Hi ellen93
My suggestion would be to try and focus on the positive that it's great your oncologist is available so readily given the strains and dIsruptions in the NHS. It's also positive that they are meeting to discuss directly and get any questions answered - much nicer than news via a letter.
Whether the news is good or bad, if you can stay optimisic then you could get use the next 2 weeks to do things ypu both enjoy, give Tony best recharge and make more positive memories.
Don't forget the helpline is there to emotionally support too
Hi, it’s a worrying time I totally understand.
Im stage 4 diagnosed last August., I’ve not had any treatment yet thats 8 months since diagnosis. The oncologist told me last week the reason for not starting treatment to early was because he is limited in treatment he can offer me. He said he only has 3 options and if the don’t work there’s not much else he can do. He also divulged with treatment it it works I had roughly 2-3 years even tho I distinctly asked him not to give me a prognosis. I’m starting treatment 2nd June and will take it from there. I told him I’m have two holidays before I start . So the moral of my story is that what will be will be so I try to save my energy enjoying myself and doing loads of things. I refuse to waste whatever time I have left worrying what might happen as worrying won’t stop what’s for me. Try to think of good things to take up your head space. You have 2 weeks before the appointments fill it up with good stuff. Xx

To be honest I would be very surprised if they did not follow up with him . My mum returned to oncology after each surgery even although she was clear .I think that’s part of the guidelines .
However although under her care and the letter coming out under her name and clinic she would see a junior dr or nurse .
Hope that helps ,

CrumpetsOrToast Faloola court Thank you for your kind words..you are right in that we can't second guess the oncologist and will.just makes ourselves miserable if we try and it won't change anything the scans picked up..usually the oncologist calls Tony in within a couple of days of there is a problem so hoping perhaps if there is something to report or discuss it's not of pressing urgency...I am a bit disappointed with the nurse specialist though as I thought they might have rang to explain there is a letter in the post with an appointment even if they couldn't comment but perhaps I am expecting too much...we did have a panic yesterday thinking perhaps the news is very bad and they are too frightened to call but we are trying to put that thought to one side...xx
