Hi

I’m new on here after recently being diagnosed with colon cancer which was found in my surrounding lymph nodes. I had half my bowel and appendix removed on the 12th Jan this year and received the dreaded news 4 weeks later, 3 more weeks and here I am starting day 3 after spending 7 hours in A&E last night.
I had the Oxaliplatin infusion but had a reaction to this just as it was finishing which I believe is pretty common. My infusion arm had gone numb to my elbow and my left hand had done the same. I then went dizzy and sick and had twitches all over my face.
long story short after more steroids and antihistamine I came home to bed feeling rather sorry for myself.
I’m now taking the capecibabine along with more steroids. Last night the right hand side of my face dropped which was obviously worrying in itself but after more bloods, ECG and a CT scan the hospital think I may of had a mini stroke and I’m back in tomorrow for more tests and an MRI.
Im thinking it’s side effects of the drugs as my nerves are all on edge, has anyone ever had this happen to them, just trying to put my mind at ease so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
much love, Debbie.

  • Hi

Sounds as though you have had quite a time of it . But I honestly could not say about them potentially being related to a stroke although it’s certainly not something I read much about here .

My own mum’s legs would go so weak we had to assist her into bed . Straight after her infusion. One thing for sure they will be very robust in checking everything out . My mum did best getting a slow infusion overnight as any faster made her react .

Your oncologist will work with the other disciplines and make sure everything is safe for you . They won’t take any risks and do a risk/benefits analysis. Has your oncologist been in touch ?

  • Hi and thank you for responding.
I was in A&E so don’t think my oncologist or any of her team will know this has happened as yet. I may see if anyone is there today to speak to about it all.
Thanks for the contact telephone number too, Debbie.
