I am half way through cycle 5 of 8.and I am now suffering with very red hands and feet and stomach issues, having to dash to the toilet usually about 4 occasions in 15 minutes. It’s is irregular
I have spoken to the oncology nurses and they confirm they are both related to the chemo and to keep them updated. Today my feet and hands became really red, so the nurses recommended that I stop the tablets keep moisturing and they will speak to the consultant and may be drop fdosage. The stomach is me disagreeing with some foods the list is expanding.
just wondered if this is normal and will the reduction have an impact on the final success or not of the chemo and does anyone have any recommendation for moisturing creams please
Hi. Yes it’s normal. I had a low dose of capecitabine alongside my radiotherapy and my feet were starting to feel a bit gritty towards the end but it went after I stopped taking the tablets. I had a higher dosage of capecitabine with oxaliplatin after my op and suffered with my feet again but kept quiet! The oxaliplatin was dropped after 6 cycles and I had capecitabine alone for another 2 then mentioned that my feet were a bit tingly to the nurse - she said they looked red and I didn’t have my last cycle. The nurses advise using Aveeno with Shea butter or Udder cream but others have said cream with a high urea content is better.
A word of warning though - I still have problems with my feet 6 years later - they feel permanently sunburnt and often swell in an evening so keep talking to the nurses if you’re still struggling.
Your tumour has been removed so this chemo is just precautionary but you are usually started on the maximum dosage for your weight and height which allows your consultant room to tweak it if you’re struggling with the side effects
Take care

Hi kiwimel. I had the same problem with my hands and feet while taking Capacetibine. I found the best cream I tried was Dermalex Repair + Restore. I had tried the Udderly Smooth cream and a couple of others but I still use Dermalex now.

Thank you. Did they reduce your dosage and what cycke wheee you on?
Hi. Yes my dosage was reduced. I can't remember where I was in my treatment. It was 3 years ago. I used to put the cream on my hands and feet and wear cotton moisturising gloves and socks in bed. Hope this helps and your treatment goes well

I only had the oral Capecitabine Tabs. I managed 5 cycles, before I developed bad Palmar Plantar in my hands & feet.
I could hardly clench my hands, & cuts developed on every joint in my finger. Then my feet became affected....& skin was peeling from both. This was after my Oncologist increased my daily dosage from 1500 to 1700 mg, because before that, I had no side effects whatsoever.
When she saw my hands & feet, I was taken off them - & within a week, these symptoms disappeared.
Best of
Marianne
