Hi Everyone!
So, Jay is back in hospital. As posted earlier, he is suffering from dehydration. My fault as I have not been giving him his Loperamide tablets after his first new run of chemo. I thought these tablets were only to be taken on an `as required basis` because when he was on CAPOX he had no diahorrea at all, so I've obviously thought the same with the 5FU which is a whole new ball game, and no two chemo treatments are the same, so I hold my hands up to that. His stoma has been a little bit `too active` and quite watery so this is why they have decided he is dehydrated the district nurse was out yesterday and took bloods and during his phone consultation this morning the nurse said his bloods were showing signs of dehydration and that he would need to get fluids into him. So, the chemo session for tomorrow has been postponed until next week-hopefully until they can get this sorted so he will just need to content himself that he is in the best place for them to get him fixed again. He's been on the phone 3 times already saying he's `bored` so nothing changes there. They've got him in a side room just now I think he'll get a permanent move later this is just the receiving ward he's in just now. Says there's no TV - must get our priorities right! and they have got him on a drip and have taken away one of his bags for stool analysis to check for any infections. He said the nurses come in and go out again and forget to come back and he's had a cup of coffee and two digestive biscuits which were `stoatin` (brick hard) and were like eating shoe leather even dunkin them in his coffee didn't help. I am a little bit strangely at ease knowing he's in there and that they will do all they can for him he may not be here as I said already for bringing in the new year with me but that's no big deal as long as I know he is getting looked after and will be able to maybe not fully but to some normality that will do for me. New Year is for the young ones now and ones at our age are past all that `party central` stuff, I think. Take Care All.

That’s the thing PattyK we just get to grips with one chemotherapy agent and it all changes with a different set of symptoms and needs and it all begins again .
Hopefully by now he will be on the ward and getting a bit of company .
This is the time for you to draw strength in the full knowledge he is being well taken care of .
It is exhausting on so many levels .
I hope he is getting his fluids as we type !

He phoned earlier again and said he had eaten just about a full dinner. He had a plate of lasagne followed by apple pie and custard. Something was mentioned about potato croquettes, but he said he didn't eat those because they were quite dry. So he's actually eaten. He's on his 2nd drip and moved to a more permanent ward- a room on his own. He likes that though as long as he has a TV, he'll be fine. Don't know if he'll need the headphones this time. Last week he needed the headphones because it was a 4-bed room he was in. He mentioned today too that they maybe putting him on another medication one of those big unpronounceable chemical names, but it'll probably be something like Immodium or something like that. Just need to keep a check on that when he comes out if the diahorrea is going to be a problem with the chemo and just need to give him his tablets regular if that's going to be the case.
Hi
It sounds as if he’s in the right place to get his dehydration levelled.
Maybe buy some isotonic sports drinks ready for when he’s home. I used to buy the own brand they’re half the price. I used to drink 4-6 pints of weak Vimto when I had my Ileostomy not sure if a colostomy is the same. I felt ill very quickly if I didn’t drink. Headache, wobbly and just very unwell also nauseous
Small healthy meals are a good way to keep things level
I hope that he rests and gets hydrated for his treatment
Ann
Thanks Ann! Yeah! I know he's in the right place for this. He's been phoning regular so that way I know he's ok. When he phoned this morning they were putting a 4th bag of fluid into him. His voice sounds a good bit better too not his usual 'booming volume' but up a few decibels from a gravelly whisper. He ate dinner last night as well said he just about ate a whole plate of lasagne followed by apple pie with custard. Hasn't eaten that much in a while n he's had cups of coffee in-between said the digestive biscuits leave a lot to be desired though. Said he he doesn't know when you he'll let him home but I'm not to concerned about that I just want him sorted again and back to me better than he has been
