So,
Had the phone consultation with the hospital this morning. Jay's bloods are showing that he is slightly dehydrated so for that reason they are not going to give him his chemo tomorrow and delay it for a week plus the fact he has had this chest infection, so I think they want that completely cleared also. He has also had a higher-than-normal output with his stoma. I have loperamide but didn't know he had to take this regularly and it was only a `needs be` as and when required basis so smacked wrists for me. There's nothing else much going on of concern they said, and they want to get this cleared ASAP as they said this can affect the kidneys. My main relief though is that they are not going to stop his chemo and just going to delay it for a week this is what was really worrying me. The only thing is though that I may not see in the New Year with him but that doesn't bother me New Year is just like another Saturday night and at our age I think we're past all those shenanigans. At least he was here for Christmas and hopefully there will be other new years. So it is bad that he has to go back into hospital but not so bad that they'll hopefully `fix him` again.
Vicky xx
Sorry to hear this.
The delays are hard to cope with aren’t they, my husband, Mark, has not yet started chemo because he is too weak to cope with it. I keep worrying g that the cancer is getting worse in this delay.
It’s very hard to stay positive but the medical professionals are all in our side and will do the best they can. Xx
Yes, it is worrying. They stopped his chemotherapy last time because during the 4th cycle he became very ill after sailing through the first 3 cycles. His kidneys were giving concern and they thought a stent needed fitted but then at the oncology appointment before the start of his new chemo regime everything was back to normal. He got a chest infection last week and had to be admitted to hospital because he is going through chemo, but it just turned out that he had a chest infection they ran CT and x rays, but they came back negative, and his bloods only showed a slight increase in inflamatory levels I think because of the infection and this is the reason they won't do the chemo with him this time but thankfully not stopping it. I get what you mean when they delay that you worry that the cancer is getting worse but then you have to put your faith in the medical team that they are going to give him the best care possible.
Thanks Court! Just back from The Beatson. He'll just need to content himself as will I, that he's in the best place and they can fix him again. He's just off the phone `bored already` no TV in the side room they've put him in just now- must get his priorities right! Nurses come in he said then go out and forget to come back. He's on a drip though and they've taken away stool samples to test for any infection he said. He's just off the phone- again! and said he's been brought in a cup of coffee and two `stoatin` digestive biscuits. Said they're like eating shoe leather. Still sounds in high spirits if nothing else.
