Hi Everyone!!
I'm now beating myself up about getting Jay admitted to hospital last week. Ok, he got sent home with antibiotics for a chest infection and he seems ok but now I am worrying have I jeapordised his chemotherapy treatment in doing this?? The last time he took ill on chemotherapy they stopped it and now I worry that they will do it again and look at it as being he is going to be unable to go through chemo at all. His platelets were down as I said, and they gave him two units of blood. I am just so worried now that they will stop his chemo again and he will be left with nothing. I thought it was a simple cold/flu he had and was just going to leave it, but now they've done all this I'm worrying now that they'll look into it all and decide to stop his chemo and he only had the first session of this new run on the 16th December. I just wonder now if it would have been worth it keeping my mouth shut and just hope it would have been something that maybe ran its course. But then again, when I got him admitted the nurse said there were loads in that day with infections sickness bugs ect on the ward Jay was in so hoping and praying that's all it was, and they'll just look at it as that and let him carry on his chemotherapy. Could I be overthinking again.
Vicky
His chest infection needed treatment with antibiotics, otherwise it could have got much worse - & so, you did the right thing by phoning your hospital at the time.
They often stop Chemo, when you are on a dose of antibiotics, but it's usually temporary, until the dose is finished. That's what happened with me, for a tooth infection.
One missed cycle of Chemo won't mean anything.

Yes you did the right things Vicky. If the hospital didn’t think he needed admitting then they would have sent him home. The fact he’s had 2 units of blood will have improved his chances of having chemo but it’s quite normal to miss a week if certain bloods are low and then carry on a week later. The chemo didn’t cause the chest infection - it’s doing the rounds and you’ve got it too - so don’t go worrying about this and focus on getting you both back to health x
He was good to go on Thursday night with the antibiotics Karen. The consultant was happy to let him go as she put it `if he felt he had to dash away` or he could stay overnight, and they would just keep him in for observation. Well, it was just after that a male nurse/registrar came by and told him about the platelets so must have decided it could have been something they could do while he was in there. So maybe it was just as well he decided to stay. All his other obs were fine his temperature was normal, blood sugar (for his diabetes) was spot on. Only his blood pressure is a bit low. They did sitting and standing tests on that because it seems when he stands up his blood pressure drops for some reason. I try to keep him moving to combat this because seems if you move about it keeps your circulation going. Not actually said if they will do anything for that though. Just told him to take his time when rising and sitting down.
It’s not your decision to make him stay in hospital it’s the medical staff and his. It’s what he needed.
I stayed in over night with my blockage as my husband could not care for me if it happened again. Maybe he thought it was safer for him there.
Did he rest over Christmas and have some nice meals. Little and often is a good way to keep the energy levels going with naps in between
I hope that he improves this week
Take care
Ann
Thanks Ann! Yes, he got a rest, but his appetite is not good but not bad either. He is eating but not as much as usual. He ate Christmas dinner but left some. Just had a sandwich yesterday for lunch and a bowl of soup last night for dinner but then on Boxing Day everyone is stuffed anyway from the day before. He had sausages on a plate for breakfast this morning. He still gets nauseous but don't know what that is he says he feels he needs to be sick but doesn't. He says he feels a lot better though with taking the antibiotics.

Bless him.
When I had my Ileostomy I felt very nauseous if I didn’t graze during the day and have high fluid intake it’s strange now as I’m reversed as I don’t get that but I’m still used to grazing I find large meals hard to get through
I expect the anti biotics will make him nauseous too probably needs to eat just before A biscuit was enough for me
Hope he keeps improving
Take care
Ann
