Hi Everyone!!
Not long back from The Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow. Jay took ill yesterday, and it was flu like symptoms he was having one minute really warm and the next freezing plus he was really tired, and his balance was off again and his vision slightly blurry. He said he was fine today, but I wasn't so sure so phoned the Beatson, and told them what was going on and the nurse said because he is going through chemo he will need to be seen- so guess who was the popular one. They sent out an ambulance for him because of his blurred vision because the nurse said no way was, he to drive himself there. They got him in took his bloods did a chest x ray took his temperature and blood pressure- which is slightly low- and because of his blurred vision and balance issues done a CT scan on his brain. Consultant came back and said the CT scan was clear his inflamatory levels in his blood were up slightly but nothing of concern nothing major showing on the x ray his blood sugar levels as he has type 2 diabetes are spot on his temperature is normal just his blood pressure on standing which seems to drop but is ok when he is sitting down. So, it all boils down to a very bad chest infection because he has had a really bad hacking cough the last couple of days and coughing up horrible green gunky stuff. Because of his chemo his blood platelets are slightly low too so as they are keeping him in overnight, they are going to give him a couple of units of blood. The consultant was satisfied to let him go home with antibiotics if he was as she put it `in a rush to get away` or he could just stay overnight for observation. So, jumping at the chance to get a sleep (without my snoring
) He said he will stay so they will probably give him the anti-biotics through a drip. He has his picc line in so this will make it easier for them to do. I'm so relieved- again! that it's only a chest infection and I said to the consultant I didn't know if I had done the right thing sending him there and she said not at all anything like that especially for someone going through chemo needs to be reported even if it is a bout of flu or a cold because they're immune systems are so low they are open to infections and she said that this is probably what has happened he's contracted a winter bug through having that really bad cold snap there and then with the weather temperatures rising again. The balance thing she said maybe due to an inner ear infection too, but they think it's mainly a chest infection. They said they may have had to keep him in until Saturday (Christmas Eve) but hopefully that's not going to happen and he'll be home tomorrow. Seems there were quite a few in today with sickness infections etc. A wee nurse came by and said it was like getting a `busload` full of patients either suffering from sickness related bugs or what Jay has infections of sorts. Just so relieved I know now what it is now and not as `sinister` as first thought although having cancer is sinister in itself.
Hi Cath!
Hope so too! Well, the on-call consultant more or less said he was good to go tonight with antibiotics but then the platelets thing came up, so they want to give him some blood and he'll probably get the anti-biotics in drip form as well. He's definitely been through the `pan-mill`.

Thank you, ladies! Can't get through to the ward to find out if he is coming home today. Did get on earlier this morning briefly and the charge nurse said he's ok and was getting his first blood infusion done. The phone line rings out constantly or is engaged when you try, and Jay has his mobile, but it's switched off to save battery because he forgot his charger. The ambulance came so quick for him yesterday- that's a first! and we just grabbed stuff and got out the door and forgot phone chargers.

Jay not long off the phone- finally switched it on! He's hoping to get out about 3 but not sure ( you know how hospitals like to keep you hanging when they're discharging you) so said he will phone again later when he sure. Happy Days! (I think!).
