Hi, I have just joined today.
I started 4 cycles of Oxaliplatin & Capecitabine today, with the Oxaliplatin IV.
I am experiencing tingling in my hands and feet but also quite severe in my jaw and glands in my neck , which makes it too difficult to eat.
I am to take the Capecitabine tablets this evening after food.
Is this a normal side effect and should I ‘push through’ so I can take the tablets?
Hi and welcome to the board. The tingly hands and feet is a well known side effect so make sure you wear gloves when touching anything below room temperature - getting things out of the fridge is a must but even things like cutlery or door handles can cause a tingle at this time of year. Have lots of warm drinks and add a splash of warm water to take the edge off any cold drinks. The jaw and glands could be ‘first bite syndrome’ where you get a shooting pain up by your ear? Take a small bite of any food initially - this usually wears off after the first couple of days.
Ive attached a link to a post that we started about chemo side effects but if you’re worried please ring your 24 hour helpline - it’s there for advice and reassurance not just emergencies
Take care
Karen s
Hi Karen s,
thank you for this
I am weary gloves for everything!
It definitely sounds like first bite syndrome - even the smallest amount sets it off - but I will keep on with the warm drinks and call the helpline
many thanks and best wishes
