Hi All.
Hope everyone is doing OK and keeping well.
Just a question. Mum has been given her op date however the past few days has been experiencing pain on the right side of her abdomen. The tumour is on the right. Is this a common symptom with bowel cancer. It seems worse these past few days than it has before. She is emptying her bowel regularly as at first I was concerned about a potential blockage.
Just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this.
Thank you x
Hello thank you for taking time to reply. My mum has T2N0M0 and I have been reading up online some say the pain is because the cancer is becoming more advanced how true that is I don't know. She has been getting little niggles but prior to getting diagnosed about 4 weeks ago she has said the pain seems to be worse at the moment. She has her op soon I have been so worried about this right sided pain. I do hope your husband well with his recovery.
Hi Louise83
If the pain is unbearable, i woukd suggest your mum talks to her colorectal nursing team.
However, if bearable i would say that various stomach pains (before and after surgery) are not uncommon.
The fact that she is emptying bowel regularly is a positive.
I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry. Enjoy the days together pre op as positive spirits will i'm sure aid her surgery recouperation.
Hello thank you and she did follow this up today with the nurse who said as long as she doesnt have a temperature the pain isn't excruciating , she is eating and not being sick then it's nothing to worry about she then said if the pain comes back to call the GP. Not sure the GP is the person to be calling when she has been given a designated cancer nurse and not sure what the GP can actually do. Therefore if the pain returns like it did I have advised my mum to call them back.
Louise83 - i think it's probably good to keep both colorectal nurses and GP abreast - then your mum get's full range of support.
With strikes and festive holidays, you may find a few more hiccups in support, but don't let this put your mum off asking.... just be a little extra patient .
And we're always here for you and your mum - we never strike
