Oxaliplatin & Capecitabine (CAPOX)- side effects

Hello, I have just joined the Forum and this is my first question.

After surgery to remove a tumour in my Sigmoid in November, I  started 4 cycles of Oxaliplatin & Capecitabine (CAPOX).  I experienced many symptoms after the IV, cold/tingly hands and my thumbs locking and my throat closing.  I am now 10 days into the course of tablets and hopefully have turned a corner as the first few days I was sick every day, I have 3 different antisickness tablets which are now working a dream.

Hopefully, this Forum will arm me with more knowledge entering into my next cycle.

An initial question would be, is it ok to use Anusol with the tablets? (nothing like being direct).

  • Hello

I was told you can't use anything for piles and unfortunately mine are internal. However this could be wrong information and like you I'm keen to see the answers as every day is painful to say the least.

Welcome to the Forum and hoping all goes well for you.

  • Hi @Delacourt and a warm welcome to the board. Glad to hear that you’ve got on top of the sickness - sometimes it’s just a case of finding the right tablet. I’ve attached a link to a post that we did about chemo side effects which you might find helpful

     Chemo care ! Top Tips:-

I think I would be tempted to check with your colorectal support nurse about the anusol - they like to know about everything you use/take in case it interacts with the chemo or causes an unexpected side effect

    Take care

  • @delacourt probably best to check with your CNS re the cream.

I have a question for you, would you mind sharing which three anti sickness you are using? My husband is due to start adjuvant chemo today, Folfox and suffered terribly with nausea previously having tried various types. It might help if we can’t get it under control.

I wish you well for further cycles. This forum is a fabulous support and is excellent for tips.

    Merry Christmas Karen x
