Hi! I’m 45 years old and been diagnosed with bowel cancer and liver mets.  Met with consultant last week to be told there is discrepancy between the colonoscopy and the CT scan, when the colonoscopy was performed I was told there was a suspicious growth on the splenic flecture at the left had side of the bowel.  When they performed the CT scan they couldn’t see that, and said they could see something on the right hand side.  So due to the discrepancy I have to have open surgery to see what is there and will be removed.  I will most likely end up with a stoma, small price to pay really.  They are doing the surgery as a priority.  Once this is recovered it’s off to oncology to see what they can do for the liver, I’m praying and hoping there is something they can do. I really can’t get my head round all this cause apart from feeling tired and occasionally stomach episodes I feel perfectly well. Just reaching out to see if anyone else is or has been on a similar journey?

  • Hi the Mrs fight

    Great name choice

It’s a lot to process I know I was all over the place until I knew that thing was in the bin.

Have they given you a date yet?

I found once I had that I could sort out what I needed for hospital it helped to make lists and shop. It helps to eat a healthy as your tum can cope with and pelvic floor exercises are beneficial.
Exercise if you can, I wasn’t able to do cardio as I was so tired and bloated but I did the exercises the physio told me after my treatment plan was discussed

Once you know exactly what op you are having there’ll be lots of members here that will have had the same and can share their experiences

There’s also a stoma support group that I found so helpful. They gave me lots of tips on travel and products. I stayed away six weeks after and flew to Spain no bother. The stoma gave me freedom that I didn’t have before my LAR

    take care

    I’m sending you a hug

  • @Mrs fight sorry to hear you have had this diagnosis.
My husband was diagnosed in June this year he had a tumour on right side of bowel and a liver met. He started with chemo first as no blocking issues and then proceeded to open surgery for both. Four weeks ago today he had this done. He had made an amazing recovery although the first two weeks were hard. He had no symptoms apart from feeling breathless walking up hills but otherwise very healthy; it was a shock to us. Chemo worked well on liver so stay positive. Exercise I think is key to recovery we generally walked two miles every day prior to diagnosis and we have now reached that distance again on our daily walks.
Sending lots of positive vibes and a virtual hug for your journey. The community on here are amazing so use it as much as you need to.

  • Hi  and welcome to the forum

If you click on my user name you can see how my mum’s team tackled her spread to the liver . She had over ten mets , over two years of treatment resulting in 73% of her liver being removed . That waGrinningback in 2010 and her liver remains clear , regenerated back and functions well but an odd shape ! Grinning.

Although she has had other recurrence I can honestly say she has had a wonderful decade when not on treatment . The scanning is robust and the approach clinically proactive .

I need to update her profile as she has another recurrence however she is now eighty, still has some treatment options and working on her fitness .

Can only praise her team !

All the best and hope this gives you some hope . I will link in some exercise threads .
