Hi everyone - just thought I would provide an update.
At the end of July I was diagnosed with bowel cancer at 24 years old. On Wednesday I underwent surgery to remove my rectal cancer. Ky surgeon managed to carry out a successful LAR surgery with temporary stoma bag via keyhole - I didn’t know until I woke up if this would be temporary or permanent.
my surgeon is very happy with how the surgery went, we got good margins and everything looked good inside! With the evidence we’ve got and how the cancer looked, we’re hoping this is stage one however this will only be confirmed once I get the histology results.
I am recovering well, my stoma is working and the pain is easing up! I do get a bit upset sometimes at night when I realise what the hell I’ve just been through, and I just hope with everything this is the only time I need to go through this! but I’m so relieved the surgery has gone ahead successfully!
That all sounds so promising and so glad you’re coping so well. Mine was stage 2 and I didn’t need any chemo for it so even if it’s not stage 1 it doesn’t mean more treatment! Fingers crossed you get the results you’re hoping for! Good luck!
