Hi newbie here

I did 6 rounds of chemo following a right hemicolonectomy

i had some issues with feet and hands after infusions but only for a week. After stopping chemo in late Aug and not visdible signs scan I thought I was on the mend. In sept began developing bad neuropathy in my feet and in my hands a bit/ not good

No one can reassure me if it will ever go away. GP trying various drugs which don’t seem to help- plus last week I slipped on last two stairs (couldn’t feel my feet) snd broke my fibula  so I’m on a zimmer till it heals

Can anyone shine a light on neuropathy and if it goes away

And also what interventions have helped / however crazy

Not been best of years

thanks

  • Hi Moggiesmum,

I developed peripheral neuropathy during the 12 cycles of FOLFOX I ad 3 years ago. It got worse over the 3 months after stopping treatment and eventually took about 4-6 months to get back to normal. I used to sleep with socks at night and often wore gloves.

Hope it resolves itself for you as well, but bear in mind it could take some time x

  • Hi . It’s a pain isn’t it? I’ve attached a link to a post from the BCUK board which may have some tips?

  • Hi Mogsiesmum

I had peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet after four cycles of oxaliplatin fourteen months ago. The neuropathy in my hands subsided quite quickly and I am able to use my fine motor skills with such things as sewing and knitting. I wouldn't say its 100% back to normal but its not an issue.

I still have the neuropathy in my feet which feels like pieces of leather stuck on the bottom of my soles! Its  feels very strange but hasn't stopped me from being mobile on a daily basis. I make myself walk each day- I don't know whether that has helped, but it was good for my confidence.

I did experience one fall about two weeks after completing the chemo, but no problems since then.

I do hope your neuropathy starts to improve in the coming months.

  • I’ve had it following 7 rounds of oxiplatin. Only came in after i changed chemo. I got referred for accupuncture which helped. It hasn’t cured it but less painful.
