Forgive me if I'm repeating nyself, I don't know if the last post I put on actually went online, apologies if ut has, but I can't see it.
I had my robotic LAR on the 13th of Oct, was home on the 15th. On the 16th, a Sunday I had a bowl of soup, the next day I had some mashed potato, not much though, I was very tired, and I just wanted to sleep, on Tuesday the 18th I threw up, a couple of times, the next day I wanted nothing, except sleep. Whenever I drifted off to sleep, a few mins later I'd open my eyes and Steve was just stood staring at me, like a creeping Jesus, so I moved from the bed to the sofa, and the same thing happened. On the 19th he phoned the colorectal nurse, who rang me, and she said ro come into hospital for them to see me. Well we got there, and I don't remember much, but I apparently had a ct scan, don't remember that, all I remember is the nurses trying to get a gastric tube up my nose, amd me throwing up over everyone, my consultant dived for cover behind a nurse as she had a lovely dress on. I don't remember the journey from SACRU ward to a ward miles away, I don't remember Steve going, nothing. Apparently my bowel had gone to sleep, and though I was drinking, there wasn't much output urine wise, I didn't know they'd catheterised me until the next day! So I was on iv antibiotics and lord knows what else, I was only allowed small sips of water, the gastric tube was draining green fluid constantly. I started to eat on Sunday the 23rd, and I was up and about by Friday the 21st. Eventually my stomach became soft, as it was very firm. I came home on Tuesday the 25th. I'm on the mend, totally exhausted doing the smallest of things. I'm having to wear tena lady knickers as I have a small amount of discharge. I'm on loperamide 8mg 4 times a day, which helps, I see my consultant again on Tuesday. I'm a bit worried about the discharge, as I don't know if could could cause an infection, has anyone else had similar problems? I haven't got a stoma, consultant doesn't seem too worried, maybe I'm worrying over nothing, but I don't want to end up back in hospital. I'm awaiting test results to see if I need chemo, fingers crossed they could be in by Tuesday. Sorry if I've repeated the post, but I couldn't find it, think I have some short term memory loss, so I may not have pressed the post tag, but hopefully I'm on the mend. I'm also sleeping well, thanks to the free trial I found online, all natural products, and I must say, I've not slept so well in over 15 years, so that's good too. Thanks for reading my ramblings Rosie
Hi MissTee
Sounds like a challenging and exhausting time. I hope you can catch your breath now.
I needed incontinence pads for a period of time. Infection was an issue once for me then i did some simple prevention.
I found waterless soap wash used to help clean at every toilet visit and barrier cream at start of day helpful. I got both from hospital or GP.
Changing pants or pads regularly also helps reduce infection risk.
Good luck for Tues.
MissTeeHi Rosie - sounds like you’ve had Ileus. It’s quite common after bowel surgery and often seems to kick in after a couple of days. It’s pretty unpleasant and although I didn’t have an ng tube I’ve heard that it is not very nice at all. Sounds like you’re over the worst of it now but it does take it out of you physically so listen to your body and rest when you need to.
Fingers crossed for clear histology results - keep us posted?
Take care
Karen x
