Hello all,

had colonoscopy on Saturday that showed a polyp that looks cancerous. Biopsies taken. Having CT scan this Saturday. Am absolutely terrified

  • Hi Elliet. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully everything will be fine. We are all here to support you when needed. Its hard not to worry but try and stay positive. Waiting is also frustrating.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. As it stands at the moment you don’t know for sure that it is definately cancer but if it is then there are a lot of treatment options available and bowel cancer is very treatable especially if caught early.

Please stay away from google! It is out of date and downright scary in places. You can ask anything you like on here and if you click on peoples names then their profile page may show their journey to date.
The next few weeks waiting for results and meetings will be tough but they’re all necessary to get a full picture in place and decide on the best way forward for you

Please keep posting and we’ll help and support you through this

    Take care

  • Hi Elliet!

Oh, I can relate to what you are going through. This is exactly how my husband Jay was diagnosed with bowel cancer but, like you, when he got his colonoscopy he was told there were `abnormalities` and the tube that takes the x rays inside couldn't go right round his colon but at that time they were unsure if it was cancer and biopsies were taken followed by MRI and CT scans this all happened so quickly but at the same time felt it was all happening in slow motion and such a shock that we may be looking at cancer. I did the `Dr Google` thing which you shouldn't I was looking for Crohns disease, Colitis Irritable Bowel Syndrome anything but cancer. He got his official diagnosis on July 1st, 2021. This was followed by a bowel resection operation in which he now has a permanent stoma (which he believes saved his life because he could hardly walk the length of himself without `needing to go`). He got the operation in January this year (2022) and as far as the surgeon and her team were concerned, they got it all- or so they thought. In May this year at a follow up appointment Jay had blood tests done and we got a letter to say his CEA levels which detect cancer may be present had risen and they wanted him to go for another CT scan which unfortunately confirmed that his cancer had returned. Apparently, a few small micro cells which can be very hard to detect had got through and formed again. They found it quite hard to detect this on the CT scan but eventually did. So here we are again fighting again. This time surgery is not an option, so he is going through combined chemotherapy cycles of Oxaliplatin and Capecitabine and so far (touch wood) all his blood tests etc have been good. He just has a dreaded CT scan coming up next week which we both are going to be sh***ing ourselves about. Please don't be alarmed by what I have told you. Everyone is different and as you said it may not be the C word but if it is, there is so much that can be done now. Keep coming on here it's a great site and there will always be someone here who will get what you are going through and be able to dish out some advice. Take Care.

  • Don't worry! Take it as another hurdle . You'll win the race. You have to stay positive & keep telling  yourself it has been found in good time. The colonoscopy has its good side. I wish you all the best and hope with all my heart that its a false alarm! Please let us know the result, it feels better to talk to people who live similar situations. Good luck!

  • Hi Elliet

i was in the same place as you.
It’s just take a deep breath and hand yourself to the experts to sort it out. That’s how I dealt with it.

Do things to fill your time and have some treats in between. I know it’s frightening but you are now on their radar and they will deal with it

It may not be cancer and if it is the individual treatment is amazing.
    Take care
