Hi guys

Hope you're all OK. My surgery is getting closer and I'm a bit nervous. Anyone that's had a bowel resection, what should I expect ? It's the unknown that mostly makes me nervous. Thank you.

  • He sounds a bit like me, I thought the same...never mind he will just have to be patient (which I am not very good at), but try and walk every day in the fresh air, even if its not far, the next day go further and so on.  My trouble is I get bored stuck indoors, as I was always out and about, but I am just grateful I am still here, so I am just having to take each day as it comes, and I am sure your husband will do the same...I wish him well. x

  • I'm impatient too. Quite annoying haha

  • All the very best for tomorrow  x

  • Hi DadPool40

    Hope your resection went well.

If you have any queries during your post op recovery, remember there are quite a few of us here with recent experiences that maybe able to help you.

    Fingers crossed for you

  • Do hope your op is completely successful, and that you are not feeling too bad.  It is not very nice the day after the op, but remember it "can only get better".  It is still early days for me, just over two weeks ago I had mine, and I can feel my strength coming back each day, and I am sure you will be the same.  I am determined to get back to normal ASAP, so even when I don't feel like going for a walk, I make myself, and am of course feel better for it.  Wishing you all the best.

  • Thanks all for your kind words. After 6 days in hospital I’m not at home. All the cancer was removed including 2 muscles. But hey they did an amazing job. My 3 hour operation turned into a 7 hour onDisappointed 1 tiny nodule my surgeon didn’t recognise was sent for biopsy. If it’s nothing then no more chemo. If it’s something then more chemo Disappointed

  • Well, Thank Goodness its all over and done with, now, like me you just have to recover as it is major surgery and it will take a while.  The worse is over, and hopefully the tiny nodule is nothing to worry about, and once you are home you can get back to some normality.  I hated it in hospital, as it is so airless and I was bored silly, although I had some lovely people on my ward, and they live near me which is nice, as we can keep in touch.  I still have the nurse come once a day to give a blood thinning jab, which I expect you will have to have also...Its great to be home with family and friends once again, and it will not be long before you will be home, they soon like you out!  Its so nice to get out in the fresh air for walks, and also been to a garden centre with my daughter, I hope to be driving again before too long, as I miss just getting in the car to go wherever I want, but I must try and be patient which isn't easy.  Wishing you a speedy, and successful recovery.

  • Hi DadPool40, so glad to hear that you are home after your op, I’ve been thinking about you and wondering how it went. Just take things easy, hopefully the biopsy will be clear. Hubby is all prepped for his op tomorrow so fingers crossed it goes well too. Take care xx

  • Sorry I misread that you were home. Hopefully you will be home soon xx
