Hi guys
Hope you're all OK. My surgery is getting closer and I'm a bit nervous. Anyone that's had a bowel resection, what should I expect ? It's the unknown that mostly makes me nervous. Thank you.
Hi Dadpool!
I'm sure you'll be fine. Jay my husband had his bowel resection in July 2021 I can't actually speak for how he felt, but what he did say he doesn't even remember a thing about it as they knock you out. He said he got this white liquid stuff injected into his hand to calm him down as he was a bag of nerves as you are no doubt. Jay loves his fishing, and the surgeon asked him if he had any hobbies just before he `went under` and all he remembers while talking to the surgeon was the surgeon saying `bye bye` to him then waking up and the surgeon saying `you're back with us then` and `did you manage to catch any fish`? but Jay just didn't obviously have a clue what was going on as he was `coming to`. You will be sore in the first couple of days there is no getting away from that but the nursing team on your ward will look after you well. They may try to get you up and mobile as soon as possible and when they think you are ready. Jay has a permanent stoma now they thought his might be reversible but its not, but he lives with it now and it's 2nd nature to him now. You will probably be assigned a stoma nurse she will probably see you while in hospital or there maybe a few who will come in and make sure you're ok there is usually a team of about 3 or 4 of them and when you leave hospital you will probably get regular outpatient appointments just to make sure the stoma is behaving itself ironically Jay has an appointment tomorrow (Wednesday) with his stoma nurse. That is of course if your stoma is permanent, I don't know how it goes with reversible stomas. I hope it all goes well, and my best wishes and good luck to you going forward. Take Care.

Hi Again Dadpool!
I any help to you. We go on Thursday(27th) for Jay's CT scan which he is absolutely Sh***ing himself about so we can wish each other luck. Last time he got a CT they found out the cancer was back, and this is when they find things you didn't think were there Because he's had 3 rounds of chemo treatment (now on to his 4th) I think they do this to see if the chemo is doing anything and to make assessments if anymore or anything else needs done. The oncologist said he would get the results at our next meeting with him on the 10th November well we hope we do then because seemingly there is a backlog with scan reports but he said he would do his best. All the best to you.
Vicky
Had mine two weeks today, and now home. Its lovely to be pain free from the cancer. My tummy is still a bit sore, but nothing to worry about. I have been to Sainsburys today with my daughter, it was lovely to get back to some normality. I must say it did tire me out, but then its a major operation, so of course its going to take time. I am so impatient, I want to feel 100% straight away, but that is not going to happen, it will take a few more weeks yet. It won't be long and you will have had the op, and in the same position as me, its the waiting thats worse, but it will soon be over and done with....wishing you all the very best.
Think I’m going to have to put my hubby on reins, he thinks he’s going to be able to do things straight away. Think I’m going to have my hands full after his op next week. It reassuring to hear you were able to get out and about not long after. Good luck with your recover x
