Xerox

I am about to start my chemo and have 8 cycles of xerox to get through.  I don’t  think I am really aware of what’s coming but know I need to crack on and get through this for my hugely supportive wife and my wonderful girls (6 and 9).

I have some good paperwork on possible side effects to expect, but wondered if people had their own stories and advice to share.  Around what possibly to expect, but also, how to prepare for chemo - what to take along on that first session / what to get in the house before hand to deal with any side effects etc.

I know everyone has a different experience, but any advice would be great!

  • Hi there is quite a long thread on here with tips on chemo.if you put it in the search bar hopefully it will come up.

Everyone reacts differently so I think its best to go with an open mind and then just go with the flow.

If you click on peoples names you can see how they got on.

If there is anything in particular do ask

    All the best

  • Hi . I think I sent you a link to the chemo top tips thread didnt i? As Kath says everyone reacts differently but I think I found the gloves with grippy palms to be most useful - things in the fridge can feel electrifyingly cold and the car steering wheel too. A wheat bag or hot water bottle for a sore arm after the infusion and a scarf to cover your mouth when outside.

Some people like to take a flask with a warm drink in along to their sessions although the nurses are on hand with tea and biscuits too. Some people are chatty, some sleep and some read so take a book or your phone (with long charger in necessary) as you could be there for a few hours.

Going with an open mind and going with the flow is great advice. Please don’t lie on the settee waiting for the side effects to kick in as you might find that you are able to carry on reasonably normally? They should give you a 24 hour phone number that you can ring with any concerns and if you struggle with nausea then tell the nurses as a change in antisickness tablet can make all the difference

Let us know how you get on as up to date experience is always helpful and feel free to add any top tips to the thread

    Take care

  • You did, sorry Karen.  Everything is a bit blurred right now and mind all over place so had completely forgotten you sent that!  Thanks Slight smile

  • Please don’t apologise  - my head was a shed in the early days - I just didn’t want to post it again and you think ‘yes, I’ve already got that thanks!’ Anyway here it is again just in case Joy
