Frightening Diagnosis

I had a meeting today and found out that my bowel cancer has spread to my liver and I’m at Stage 4. I’m due to see an oncologist soon and I am so frightened. Has anyone who has been in a similar situation had a good prognosis after chemo? I desperately need some positive news. Thanks.

I have just linked in this thread so you can read the input from myself ,  and .

If you click on my user name you can read how my mum navigated her diagnosis of a spread to the liver . The location and size of the spread comes into play but I have a link to some reading material on the thread that shows you various ways your team may approach treatment .

My mum had five mets at diagnosis with one measuring 5cm . However chemotherapy did a fabulous job at shrinking it all down . Segments 1 to 3 were clear in the liver and they were able to refer her to a centre of excellence where they removed 73% of her liver .

Hope that gives you some encouragement.

  • Thank you! Your mother’s story is amazing. I’m still in shock and hoping I can see the oncologist sooner rather than later xx

  • Hi

I had a colon resection in Sept 21 and later found  one small tumour on liver.I was put on 12 rounds of Folfox and remarkably after CT and MRI scans I am currently cancer free.Recent 3 monthly scan is also clear.I’m off treatment at present just monitoring so chemo is a very powerful roll if you are receptive.Somthere is Hope out there.

  • That’s great to hear  so encouraging .Thanks for this ,

  • Hi

I was in your situation 2 years ago so know how terrified you will be right now, this is the worst part when you are in limbo, you will feel much better when you have seen your oncologist and have a treatment plan.

I was told right at the beginning that an operation would be unlikely.  However, I had a good response to chemo which led to a liver op to remove the tumours and then more recently a bowel op.

It's a long road but take one day at a time.  Stay positive and don't Google!  Xx
