Having full body CT-PET scan today following MRI showing possible spread to liver. Can't find my original post (few days ago), but just wanted to say I'm really grateful to you - Court - and anyone who has responded. I've spent a couple of hours, this morning, just reading many people's experiences on Macmillan and somehow I'm feeling less stressed and more positive overall. I'll face whatever is/is not found with a fight!

  • That’s the spirit . Please let us know how you get on?

    Take care

  • This was my hubby in June...MRI CT and PET scan confirmed small met on liver but no other spread...open liver resection on 18th July and he is recovering well..just waiting now till his appointment on 20th Sept to see if any further treatment is required..but there are so many things they can do so don't despair...as my friend said just another bit of snip and stitch to get it all out....all the best of luck...xx

  • Hi ellen93

Thank you for your encouraging words. It's good to know your husband is doing so well. There's such a great range of treatments now.

Best wishes for your hubbys continued good progress.

  • Hi Guys

I'm not sure how to do a reply or update to everyone, so just replying to one of my replies - trusting people will see it.

OK so my lovely Macmillan nurse phoned me yesterday, when I was on my way back from the vet, with my husband and my dog. It 'has' spread to the liver. Apparently the reason the PET scan showed as clear last year, was because the chemo had made it inactive (showed on CT and MRI, but not as actual cancer on PET).

Having been off chemo for nine months, it's now showing as a spread to the liver, but Kings Liver specialist thinks it's probably 'treatable' - possibly by resection, which is cool. I know it can then come back again as it's now considered stage IV, but I'm extremely healthy and strong (although a slim 64 year old), so I think I'm in with a good chance.

I've been told it may take a few weeks before any form of treatment though as everything has to be processed etc.

    Best wishes

  • As difficult as this is it’s always reassuring to hear of surgical options .

We are here with you as you navigate this next part of your treatment and back to no evidence of disease .

A lot to go through but with the right support you will get over this bump !

You sound as though you are holding it together .

Hope there is a bit of spoiling going on for the next few weeks .

  • I just wanted to say that my hubby was in a similar situation.. he is now 7 weeks on from a liver resection and apart from a few hiccups is doing well...like you we know there's a good chance it will come back again but with the treatment options available there's always hope...please let us know how you get on...xx

  • Hi Court, ellen93 and anyone else reading this. I met with a liver specialist, in London and was offered the option of ablation or keyhole liver resection, plus ablation to part of one lung as apparently there's evidence of a tiny nodule or lesions on the right lung, but it's undefined.

I've opted for keyhole liver resection, plus happy to go for ablation of lung if needed - maybe at the same time.

I've also had an appointment with my local oncologist and he fully supports my decision. He says chemo afterwards would be a good idea, which is fine by me.

Since having the colon surgery and chemo last year, I feel healthier than I've felt for years so it's hard to believe there's actually anything wrong with me! On the upside though, this means my body and mind should cope with whatever is thrown at it!!

Best wishes and hugs to everyone

  • Can I ask you what type and stage your cancer is as I have stage 4 bowel cancer with small mets  on my lungs unidentified at this point, tumour in my sacrum and enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen.
