Hi guys, should be starting treatment in a few weeks and like everyone before starting treatment I have been Googling frantically of all the possible side effects, one of which my oncologist did mention to me and said it was rare was these throat spasms, now do you just get these when you have the Oxaliplatin at the hospital then leave kinda thing or do they occur when you take the tablets at home too.
Im soo sorry for all the questions guys but again I really do appreciate all your replies because to be honest I am absolutely terrified for when I start x
I found it was the oxaplatin gave me throat spasms. I found that if I drank hot water or tea the last half hour of the infusion it helped. If you feel a spasm coming in and you usually can you can drink the hot water or tea. Sometimes going from my livingroom to the bathroom where it was a bit colder affected my throat as well. I felt my throat closed up at the back.

Maudie99 its great that you didnt have the side effects.some people however do (despite as you say being careful )through no fault of their own

PS.Before my treatment I had a blood test which showed I was a likely candidate for the hand and foot syndrome.luckily apart from the pins and needles during treatment ,I had no lasting effects.
Hubby had a few of the throat spasms following his oxaliplatin infusions. These usually happened the same day or the following day. He kept a hot drink to hand plus he was given a sedative to take if needed. It’s important to try and relax and not panic but that’s easier said than done. Best of luck for your treatment.
MY husband Jay just started his treatment last week. He went to hospital for the Oxaliplatin infusion and has been taking the Capecitabine tablets twice daily. He has had no adverse effects so far but his throat has been closing up slightly but I think this has been due to him taking cold drinks (though not directly from the fridge) he does have a hot drink though to combat anything like that. He has felt the neuropathy in his fingers (pins n needles) but that doesn't last long and sometimes out of habit he forgets and goes to the fridge without wearing his gloves. He's just a bit tired but im guessing thats the tablets working on him.
