I went in hospital last Tuesday for LAR resection. Before I went into surgery my surgeon decided to give me a stoma. The surgery was just over 7 hours long.
I can't believe how they keep the pain under control. I was up the very next day in a chair. The day after walking around the wards and on day three managed stairs.
The stoma isn't an issue at all ,very easy to manage.
I came home on Monday , so under a week I am home with great support from the stoma nurses . The hardest thing is taking things easy and realising I have had major surgery but my husband is making sure I do that.
To say I was so nervous about the surgery beforehand I can't believe how smooth it has gone. I know I still have a way to go as I get the histology results a week on Friday.
Thank you to everyone on this sight for your support and guidance. It has really helped reading everyones stories.

Great news Julie
Take it easy you deserve it and your body needs time to heal. I tried to push it but it didn’t work I found the best way were power naps. They really gave me a boost.
Anything that we can do just shout. You could join the stoma group for any tips you may need if you like they’re a great bunch
Enjoy your feet up for a while
Hope all goes well with your results

Hello Artsie Ann
Taking it easy but having a few issues with my stoma . I have had a couple of leaks, sure it is just teething problems. I had to have open surgery in the end and the scar is very near my stoma so isn't making life easy. I have called my stoma Bubbles as it bubbles away a lot lol.
Julie
Hi Julie and Bubbles
That's exactly what your stoma should do.
I had issues for the first two weeks. Leaks mainly at night I had to sleep on my back propped up with pillows as I had keyhole and incision too
There’s a brilliant support group here that helped me so much in the early days. I’ve had so many tips from some knowledgable members.
Pop any teething issues there.
