following on from the surgery i had a couple of weeks ago i have had the results from the pathology on everything that was removed,

they removed the cancer through surgery along with 25 lymph nodes and another small anomaly, the good news is the cancer hadn't spread to the lymph nodes, it has been graded as stage 2, i'm fortunate enough to avoid chemo and they will monitor me for the next 5 years.

so far it looks like it's a positive outcome

  • Andysel-may I ask what type of surgery you had? I am meeting my surgeon tomorrow and have a few questions. From what I understand my cancer has not spread to other organs and is contained in the bowel area.

  • Hi samcon

i had a tumour on my ascending colon which required a right hemi-colectomy (the right section of my large bowel)

it started off as keyhole but they had to open me up because there was an anomaly, but these things happen.

    the tumour was about 2cm,

the surgery removed the tumour and the bowel, lymph nodes surrounding it.

I had surgery on the 29th July but I’m now up and about and walking a good 3 miles a day, although I do get a little tired in the afternoons, but also eating well with everything going in the right direction at the moment,

  • Thanks for your quick response and I wish you well on your recovery. I am a little bewildered as I feel so well and fit but I do understand the cancer has to be removed. Regards Mike.

  • Hi Samcon

i too had no symptoms of any kind, the cancer was found by accident following a CT scan I had to confirm an appendicitis, so if my appendix had at of played up I would still be none the wiser, so I count myself lucky it was found in the way it was,

surgery has removed all the bad bits from me so I can’t complain even though it was unexpected

  • Your message has really lifted me this afternoon. If the screening had not picked it up I do would have just carried on. My medical meeting is tomorrow so I will understand everything and prepare for the next steps.

  • Yes Samcon that’s what happened with me I was left years and I did become ill, bloated and absolutely no energy. I had 10cm tumour in my rectum my doctor diagnosed piles ten years ago.
Its much better to get it treated early. You’ll hopefully recover quickly.
I too was picked up with the screening program and feel so lucky to live where we are checked

Hope all goes well at the meeting. Keep us updated
